White House Releases Trump’s MRI Results Amid Scrutiny Over Presidential Health

The White House released President Donald Trump’s MRI results on Monday, responding to growing scrutiny about the 79-year-old commander in chief’s health. The disclosure comes as questions about presidential fitness have taken center stage in Washington, highlighting stark differences in media coverage between the current and former administrations.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt read the report to journalists, emphasizing that Trump is in “excellent health” with a cardiovascular system showing no concerns. According to Leavitt, the imaging was conducted as a preventative measure “to identify any issues early, confirm overall health, and ensure the president maintains long-term vitality and function.”

The release follows media attention on Trump’s physical appearance earlier this year, particularly focused on photographs showing swollen legs during his July attendance at the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, as well as earlier images revealing bruising on his hand. The White House had previously attributed these conditions to chronic venous insufficiency—described as “a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70″—and frequent handshaking.

Trump himself prompted the MRI disclosure after telling reporters on Sunday that he would release the results, which he characterized as showing him in “perfect” health. Monday’s disclosure marks the latest in what the administration describes as efforts toward “total transparency” regarding the president’s medical condition.

The White House has taken a combative stance toward media outlets raising questions about Trump’s health, with spokeswoman Taylor Rogers telling Fox News Digital that “no one believes the failing legacy media’s disingenuous obsession about President Trump’s health because we all just watched them actively cover up Joe Biden’s severe mental health decline for the past four years.”

Trump has personally criticized The New York Times for what he called a “hit piece” in November that focused on his age and the “realities of aging” while serving in office. The president has undergone two physical examinations in 2025—in April and October—with both resulting in reports that he “remains in excellent health.”

The heightened scrutiny over Trump’s fitness stands in stark contrast to media coverage of former President Joe Biden’s health during his time in office. Until his disastrous debate performance against Trump in June 2024, mainstream outlets largely avoided in-depth coverage of Biden’s physical and cognitive condition despite recurring public incidents that raised concerns.

Conservative critics have long contended that Biden’s mental acuity was declining throughout his presidency, pointing to mumbled remarks, a high-profile fall while boarding Air Force One in 2021, another fall during a bike ride in 2022, and an incident when he tumbled during the Air Force Academy’s graduation ceremony in Colorado in 2023.

The Biden administration consistently rejected these characterizations, with Biden himself denying cognitive decline during a May interview on “The View” where he dismissed accounts in recent political memoirs as “wrong.”

Public perception shifted dramatically after the June 2024 presidential debate, when Biden’s poor performance opened floodgates of concern from traditional allies. Three weeks later, Biden dropped out of the 2024 race, giving then-Vice President Kamala Harris just over 100 days to campaign as the Democratic nominee.

The handling of Biden’s health has continued to draw criticism during the Trump administration. In May, Biden’s team announced he was undergoing treatment for advanced prostate cancer that had not been detected while he was in office. Additionally, Trump has criticized his predecessor’s use of an autopen for official documents, announcing he would terminate all documents signed by this method.

At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April, Axios reporter Alex Thompson, who co-authored a book on Biden’s health decline, criticized both the Biden administration and fellow journalists for what he called a “cover-up” of the former president’s condition.

“President Biden’s decline and its cover-up by the people around him is a reminder that every White House, regardless of party, is capable of deception,” Thompson said, adding that the media “missed a lot of this story. And some people trust us less because of it.”
