China and Russia Condemn US Military Pressure on Venezuela Amid Oil Tanker Blockade

Tensions between the United States, China, and Russia have escalated following public condemnations from Beijing and Moscow regarding American military pressure on Venezuela, as ongoing oil tanker blockades continue to impact their economic interests in the region.

The diplomatic row comes as Venezuela faces increasing international scrutiny over its oil exports, with China and Russia—both significant investors in Venezuela’s energy sector—expressing concern about what they characterize as unwarranted American intervention in the South American nation’s affairs.

Former CIA station chief Dan Hoffman, speaking on Fox News Live, offered analysis on the situation, noting that the public nature of these condemnations represents a calculated escalation from both Eastern powers.

“What we’re seeing is a coordinated response from China and Russia, who view Venezuela as a strategic foothold in the Western Hemisphere,” Hoffman explained. “Both countries have billions invested in Venezuelan oil infrastructure and consider the American pressure as direct interference with their economic interests.”

The blockade, part of a broader U.S. policy aimed at pressuring the Venezuelan government, has effectively hindered oil tankers from delivering Venezuelan crude to international markets, particularly affecting shipments destined for Chinese and Russian refineries.

China, Venezuela’s largest creditor with investments estimated at over $60 billion, has been particularly vocal about the situation. Beijing’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson issued a statement characterizing the U.S. actions as “economic coercion” and a violation of international trade norms.

“The legitimate trade cooperation between China and Venezuela falls within the framework of international law and should not be subject to unilateral interference from any third party,” the statement read.

Similarly, Russia, which has invested heavily in Venezuelan oil fields through state-owned Rosneft, condemned the U.S. approach as “economic warfare.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called the blockade “an attempt to suffocate the Venezuelan economy” and promised continued support for Caracas.

The Venezuelan situation represents another flashpoint in the increasingly complex geopolitical competition between the United States and its strategic rivals. Energy analysts note that Venezuela possesses the world’s largest proven oil reserves, making it a prize in the ongoing struggle for global resource influence.

Venezuela’s oil industry, once among the world’s most productive, has been crippled by years of mismanagement, corruption, and international sanctions. Production has fallen from over 3 million barrels per day in the late 1990s to less than 800,000 barrels currently, according to OPEC figures.

The blockade is having ripple effects across global oil markets. Industry experts note that while the immediate impact on global supply remains limited given Venezuela’s reduced production capacity, the psychological effect on markets has contributed to price volatility.

“This is as much about geopolitical signaling as it is about oil,” said energy analyst Maria Rodriguez at GlobalEnergy Partners. “The United States is demonstrating its continued ability to project power in its hemisphere, while Russia and China are pushing back against what they see as American overreach.”

U.S. officials maintain that the pressure campaign is a response to democratic backsliding in Venezuela and part of a broader effort to promote regional stability. State Department representatives have emphasized that humanitarian exemptions exist within the current policy framework.

As the situation develops, the international community watches closely. The European Union has called for dialogue, while Latin American nations remain divided on the appropriate response.

With neither side showing signs of backing down, analysts warn that Venezuela’s economic crisis could deepen further, potentially triggering additional regional instability and refugee outflows from a country already experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the Western Hemisphere.
