Pentagon Releases Apollo Mission Transcripts Revealing Unexplained Phenomena on the Moon

Declassified transcripts from NASA’s Apollo 12 and Apollo 17 missions reveal multiple instances where astronauts reported seeing unexplained lights and objects while orbiting and walking on the lunar surface, according to documents released by the Pentagon on Friday.

The release is part of a broader disclosure initiative ordered by the Trump administration, aimed at increasing government transparency surrounding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), formerly known as UFOs. The Pentagon has begun releasing dozens of photos and documents detailing UAP sightings it has documented since the 1950s, with tens of millions of documents set to be released on a rolling basis.

Among the newly released materials are six photographs taken by Apollo 12 astronauts on the lunar surface in 1969, showing unidentified lights in the dark lunar sky. In one photograph, analysts identified five separate UFOs. The images show oddly shaped lights appearing against the stark lunar horizon, with certain areas highlighted in the Pentagon’s released versions.

A four-page transcript from the Apollo 12 mission provides firsthand accounts from astronauts describing these phenomena. One astronaut reported lights that were “sailing off into space” and appeared to be “escaping the moon.”

“I was thinking they’re dropping off from my water boiler, but it looks like some of those things are escaping the moon. They really haul out of here and just press off at the stars,” the astronaut stated in the transcript. He further described the lights as “pulsing every second.” While mission command suggested the phenomena might be electromagnetic interference, which can occur from both man-made and natural sources, no definitive explanation was provided.

The Apollo 17 mission in 1972 yielded similar accounts, detailed in a 16-page transcript. Astronauts described seeing lights from their spacecraft window that resembled “Fourth of July” celebrations. “They’re very jagged, angular fragments that are tumbling,” one astronaut noted.

Another Apollo 17 crew member reported difficulty sleeping due to bright “peripheral horizon-type things.” The astronaut recalled, “The last one I remember before falling asleep — was the fact that there was a very bright spot that flashed right between my eyes like a very bright headlight — like a train coming at you, only with a flash.”

These lunar mission documents represent just a small portion of the UAP-related materials being released. The initiative follows President Donald Trump’s directive to increase transparency around unexplained aerial phenomena, many of which remain unsolved despite decades of documentation by various government agencies.

UFO researchers and transparency advocates have long suggested that the government possesses significant undisclosed information about unexplained aerial phenomena. Some experts have claimed the new disclosures could potentially reveal what they describe as a decades-long “cover-up” of information related to non-human intelligence.

The Pentagon’s release comes amid growing public and congressional interest in UAP sightings. In recent years, military pilots have increasingly come forward with accounts of encounters with objects demonstrating flight characteristics beyond known human technology.

The Department of Defense has made these files and others available through a dedicated website (WAR.GOV/UFO), allowing the public direct access to previously classified or restricted information about unexplained phenomena documented by government agencies.

While the Pentagon has not provided conclusions about what these lunar phenomena might have been, the release represents a significant step toward greater transparency on a topic that has long been shrouded in secrecy and speculation.

This is a fascinating development, and I commend the Pentagon for their transparency. However, I would urge caution in speculating too much about the nature of the unexplained phenomena without further scientific analysis and corroboration. The implications for mining and exploration could be significant, but we must proceed with due diligence.
