U.S. Issues Warning to Iranian Civilians as Military Tensions Escalate
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a stark safety warning to Iranian civilians on Sunday, stating that the Iranian regime is launching military operations from densely populated urban areas, effectively putting civilian lives at risk.
According to CENTCOM, Iranian forces are using heavily populated cities including Dezful, Isfahan, and Shiraz as launch sites for one-way attack drones and ballistic missiles. U.S. forces urged civilians in these areas to remain at home, emphasizing that locations being used for military purposes could lose their protected status under international law and become legitimate targets.
“Iran’s terrorist regime is blatantly disregarding civilian lives by attacking Gulf partners while compromising the safety of their own people,” said Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, in an official statement.
The warning comes amid escalating tensions following the launch of Operation Epic Fury on February 28. CENTCOM reported that Tehran has launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and thousands of drones since the operation began, though the frequency of attacks has declined as U.S. and partner forces have systematically targeted Iran’s military capabilities.
Iranian forces have reportedly targeted civilian infrastructure, including airports and hotels across the Middle East, as part of retaliatory attacks against several Gulf states including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
The UAE’s Ministry of Defense has been particularly affected by these attacks. On Sunday, the ministry released footage showing its air defense systems intercepting and destroying Iranian drones. According to UAE officials, they detected 17 ballistic missiles, successfully destroying 16 while one fell into the sea. Additionally, their air defenses detected 117 drones, intercepting 113 of them, with four falling within UAE territory.
Since the beginning of Iran’s offensive operations, the UAE reports intercepting a total of 221 ballistic missiles, 1,342 drones, and eight cruise missiles, highlighting the scale of the aerial threat facing Gulf nations.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has denied targeting “friendly and neighboring countries,” claiming on social media platform X that Iran’s strikes have been exclusively aimed at U.S. military bases and installations in the region. This assertion stands in stark contrast to reports from affected Gulf states.
CENTCOM’s announcement stressed that U.S. forces take “every feasible precaution” to minimize civilian harm but cannot guarantee safety near facilities that the Iranian regime is using for military purposes. This warning underscores the complex challenge of conducting military operations while attempting to protect civilian populations.
The ongoing conflict has created significant disruption in the Middle East, affecting civilian travel and causing widespread evacuations. Commercial flights have been disrupted across the region, with many international carriers suspending operations to affected areas.
Military analysts note that the current conflict represents one of the most intensive air defense challenges seen in the region since the Gulf War. The high volume of drone and missile attacks has tested the capabilities of U.S. and allied air defense systems, which have largely proven effective but remain under constant pressure.
As tensions continue to escalate, regional stability hangs in the balance, with diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation showing little progress. The conflict threatens to further destabilize an already volatile Middle East and potentially draw in additional regional powers.
For civilians caught in the crossfire, the situation remains perilous, with limited options for ensuring personal safety beyond heeding military warnings to remain indoors and away from potential military targets.

It’s troubling to see the Iranian government using populated areas as military launch sites. Putting civilians at risk is a clear violation of international laws and norms. The US warning is necessary to try to keep people safe.
I agree, the Iranian regime’s actions are deeply reckless and unjustifiable. Hopefully the international community can apply more pressure to get them to change course and respect human rights.
The Iranian government’s blatant disregard for civilian safety is unconscionable. I commend the US for trying to warn and protect innocent Iranians, but the root problem lies with the regime’s reckless and aggressive behavior.
I agree completely. The Iranian leadership needs to be held accountable for these egregious actions. The international community must take firm steps to compel them to change course and respect human rights.
This is a complex and concerning situation. While the US warning is important, I worry about the potential for further escalation and harm to Iranian civilians. All sides need to exercise restraint and prioritize de-escalation and diplomacy.
This is a troubling development that underscores the dangers of the current tensions. I hope the US and its partners can find ways to de-escalate the situation and prioritize the safety of Iranian civilians, who are being put in harm’s way by their own government.
The Iranian regime’s callous disregard for its own people is deeply disturbing. While the US warning is necessary, the ultimate responsibility lies with the Iranian leadership to stop endangering its citizens. Diplomatic solutions must be urgently pursued.
This is a concerning development. The Iranian regime’s disregard for civilian lives is truly appalling. I hope the US and its partners can find a diplomatic solution to de-escalate the situation and protect innocent Iranians.
