The economic incentives facing social media companies complicate these efforts. This creates a fundamental tension between business objectives and content integrity that any regulatory framework must address.
As the 2024 election cycle approaches in the United States and numerous other countries prepare for their own elections, the pressure to develop more effective approaches to manipulated media continues to mount.
