Six former Division I men’s basketball players from colleges in Alabama have been implicated in a betting scandal involving deliberate game manipulation, according to findings released Wednesday by the NCAA’s Complex Case Unit.
The investigation, which concluded after nearly two years, revealed that the players intentionally underperformed during games in the 2021-22 season to benefit individuals who had placed bets on those contests. The investigation began in March 2022 after suspicious betting patterns triggered alerts at multiple sportsbooks. Unusual amounts of money were wagered on specific player statistics and game outcomes that ultimately aligned with the players’ underperformance.
While the NCAA declined to name the individuals involved, citing ongoing legal proceedings, sources familiar with the case indicated that the players participated in at least 15 manipulated games across the season. None of the six players are currently enrolled at NCAA institutions.

As part of the investigation’s outcome, the six former players face a 10-year show-cause order, effectively banning them from involvement in NCAA athletics during that period. Additionally, the games in question will be vacated from official records.
