A school teacher in Karimnagar district has been suspended following allegations of misconduct that included threatening colleagues and spreading misinformation about government programs.

V. Srinivas, a school assistant (SGT) at the Mandal Parishad Primary School (Girls) in Jammikunta mandal, was suspended on Saturday by District Educational Officer S. Mondaiah for violating service conduct rules. The suspension was issued under Rule 8(2) of the Telangana State Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules of 1991.

According to officials, the teacher faces multiple serious allegations that prompted disciplinary action. Srinivas allegedly posted provocative messages to parents and students, spread false information about government initiatives including the mid-day meal program, and engaged in behavior that damaged the reputation of the school, the education department, and the state government.

Perhaps most concerning were accusations that Srinivas recorded video and audio on school premises, which he then reportedly used to threaten and blackmail fellow teachers and the school’s headmaster, creating a hostile work environment within the educational institution.

The disciplinary action follows a thorough investigation process. The DEO made the decision after reviewing evidence and a detailed report submitted by the mandal education officer (MEO). District Collector Pamela Satpathy also issued note orders in the case, highlighting the seriousness with which local administration viewed the allegations.

The mid-day meal program, which Srinivas allegedly misrepresented, is a flagship initiative in Indian public schools designed to improve nutrition and attendance rates among students. False information about such programs can impact public trust and potentially affect student enrollment and participation.

Teacher misconduct cases have become increasingly complex in the digital age, with education departments across India grappling with appropriate responses to inappropriate use of social media and digital recording devices by staff. This case represents an intersection of professional conduct expectations and the challenges of maintaining appropriate boundaries in an increasingly connected educational environment.

Under the terms of his suspension, Srinivas is barred from leaving the headquarters without obtaining prior permission from the DEO. He will receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with Financial Rule 53 while the disciplinary proceedings continue.

The suspension will remain in effect until the completion of the disciplinary process, which typically involves formal hearings where the teacher can present a defense against the allegations. The timeline for such proceedings varies but can extend for several months depending on the complexity of the case and the administrative backlog.

Educational departments throughout Telangana maintain strict conduct rules for teachers, particularly regarding their interactions with students and parents. The suspension underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining professional standards in educational institutions.

Local education officials have not disclosed whether any criminal charges might be pursued in connection with the alleged threatening and blackmailing behavior, which could potentially involve separate legal proceedings beyond the administrative discipline process.

The case highlights the delicate balance educational institutions must maintain between addressing misconduct firmly while ensuring due process for accused staff members. It also reflects the significant responsibility placed on teachers as public servants who shape young minds and represent government institutions in their communities.
