A security guard at the center of a controversial hotel incident involving pop star Chappell Roan and Jude Law’s daughter has defended his actions, contradicting claims made by the child’s mother and stepfather.

Pascal Duvier took to Instagram to dispute allegations that he aggressively confronted Catherine Harding and her 11-year-old daughter Ada Law at a São Paulo hotel during Lollapalooza Brasil. The incident gained widespread attention after Harding’s husband, Brazilian soccer star Jorginho, publicly criticized Roan on social media.

“I do not normally address online rumors, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation,” Duvier wrote. He emphasized that his interaction with Harding “was calm and with good intentions,” directly challenging the couple’s version of events.

Significantly, Duvier confirmed he was not working for Roan at the time, stating he was at the hotel on behalf of “another individual.” He explained his actions stemmed from unspecified security concerns and “heightened overall security risk” at the location, which prompted him to make “a judgement call.”

The controversy erupted when Jorginho shared an Instagram Story claiming his stepdaughter and wife were scolded for getting too close to Roan during breakfast at their hotel. According to Jorginho, Ada simply walked past Roan’s table to confirm it was the singer, smiled, and returned to her mother without speaking to the artist.

Jorginho alleged that afterward, “a large security guard” approached them and spoke “in an extremely aggressive manner,” telling Harding not to allow her daughter to “disrespect” or “harass” other people. He claimed this left Ada “shaken and in tears,” and concluded his post with a direct message to Roan: “Without your fans you would be nobody. And to the fans, she does not deserve your affection.”

Roan quickly responded, explaining that the guard was “not my personal security” and that she didn’t witness any interaction. “No one came up to me, no one bothered me. Like, I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel, and I think these people were staying at the hotel as well,” she said in a video statement.

The singer added, “I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child,” and apologized to them: “I’m sorry to the mother and child, that someone was assuming something, that you would do something, and if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”

Despite Roan’s apology, Harding continued to press the issue, posting photos of Ada with more “welcoming” celebrities and recording another Instagram video suggesting Roan hadn’t taken full responsibility. “I think that you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity to make sure, I guess, that the people who work for you and that act on your behalf are acting on your behalf,” Harding said.

The incident has sparked debate about celebrity boundaries and fan interactions. Slate writer Christina Cauterucci criticized the couple’s handling of the situation, calling it a “public freakout” that unnecessarily escalated what could have been handled privately. Cauterucci particularly questioned Jorginho’s decision to turn “a discouraging moment on an otherwise fun trip into an international witch hunt that taught his stepdaughter all the wrong lessons.”

The controversy comes amid ongoing discussions about Roan’s relationship with fame and fans. The 28-year-old singer has previously faced criticism for setting personal boundaries regarding fan interactions outside of performances and official events.

Ada is the daughter of Jude Law and Catherine Harding from a brief relationship they had in 2014. Harding, a former singer and TV presenter also known as Cat Cavelli, is now married to Jorginho and based in Rio de Janeiro.

As the conflicting accounts continue to circulate, the incident highlights the complex dynamics between celebrities, their security teams, and the public, particularly when young fans are involved.

The security guard’s response seems reasonable, but I’d like to know more about the specific circumstances that led to the incident. Was there a valid security risk, or did he overreact? More context would help assess the situation.

While it’s good the security guard is speaking up, I’m not sure I fully buy his version of events. There seem to be conflicting stories, and I’d want to see more evidence before drawing any conclusions.

I agree, it’s hard to know who is telling the full truth here. More details from all parties would help clarify what really happened.

  3. It’s good that the security guard is defending himself against the accusations. However, I’d like to hear more details from both sides to get a clearer picture of what really happened.

The security guard’s rebuttal raises some interesting points, but I’d still like to hear more from the other side. Without a full picture, it’s difficult to assess the merits of each account.

This is a he-said, she-said situation. I hope an objective investigation can uncover the facts and determine if the security guard’s actions were justified or if he acted inappropriately. Transparency is key in resolving disputes like this.

This is a complex situation with differing accounts. I hope the full truth comes out, regardless of which party is right. Security should balance protecting people with respecting privacy and avoiding unnecessary confrontation.

Interesting to see the security guard’s perspective on this incident. It seems there may be more to the story than what was initially reported. I wonder what the ‘unspecified security concerns’ were that prompted his actions.
