Katy Perry Denies Sexual Assault Allegations Made by Ruby Rose

Pop star Katy Perry has vehemently denied allegations of sexual assault made by actress Ruby Rose concerning an incident allegedly occurring over a decade ago at an Australian nightclub.

“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies,” Perry’s representative said in a statement to Rolling Stone. The spokesperson added that “Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”

The controversy began Sunday night when Rose responded to a social media post about Perry criticizing Justin Bieber’s Coachella performance. “Katy Perry sexual[ly] assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a shit what she thinks,” Rose wrote on Threads.

In subsequent posts, Rose elaborated on her claims with graphic details, alleging that Perry “bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.” Rose claimed the incident occurred while she was “resting” on her best friend’s lap to avoid Perry.

The Australian actress, known for her breakthrough role in “Orange Is the New Black,” stated she has corroborative photos and that multiple witnesses observed the alleged encounter. Though Rose didn’t specify the exact date, Australian media reports place both Perry and Rose at Melbourne’s popular Spice Market nightclub in August 2010.

Rose, now 40, explained why she waited years to come forward with these allegations. “I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it,” she wrote. According to Rose, she remained silent in part because Perry later “agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret.”

“I was only in my early 20s,” Rose continued. “It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes.”

Rose also indicated she filed a police report on Sunday, though she did not specify whether it was related to the alleged Perry incident or another matter she had been discussing on social media. When contacted by Rolling Stone, a spokesperson for Victoria Police in Australia stated that due to privacy concerns, “We don’t ever confirm the identity of who we may or may not be investigating.”

This controversy emerges as both women continue their careers in entertainment. Perry, a global pop superstar with multiple chart-topping hits, has recently been promoting new music and appearing as a judge on television singing competitions. Rose, who rose to prominence after her role in the Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black” in 2013, has pursued acting and music careers since leaving the show.
