Jeon Han-gil Earned 30 Million Won According to President Lee and Lee Jun-seok

South Korean political circles were jolted Monday by allegations that lawmaker Jeon Han-gil received approximately 30 million won (roughly US$22,000) from President Yoon Suk Yeol during his presidential campaign, according to claims made by former People Power Party chairman Lee Jun-seok.

The controversy erupted when Lee, who has become an outspoken critic of the Yoon administration since his removal from the party leadership position, revealed the alleged payment during a media interview. Lee asserted that President Yoon personally provided the funds to Jeon, who currently serves as a member of the National Assembly.

“According to information I’ve received from reliable sources, Congressman Jeon Han-gil accepted around 30 million won from candidate Yoon during the presidential campaign period,” Lee stated. “This transaction raises serious questions about the financial practices within the campaign and potentially violates political funding regulations.”

The allegations come at a particularly sensitive time for South Korea’s ruling People Power Party, which has been struggling to maintain unity amid internal factional disputes. President Yoon’s approval ratings have been fluctuating in recent months, with his administration facing criticism over economic policies and political appointments.

Jeon Han-gil, a second-term lawmaker representing a district in Gyeonggi Province, has been known as a moderate conservative voice within the party.
