ICE Arrests of Illegal Immigrants Convicted of Child Sex Crimes Nearly Double Under Trump Administration

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Houston has arrested 414 illegal immigrants charged or convicted of child sex offenses during the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term. This figure represents nearly a twofold increase compared to the 211 arrests made during the final year of the Biden administration, according to an official ICE press release.

The arrested individuals collectively accounted for 761 child sex offenses and an additional 525 criminal offenses ranging from homicide to robbery, highlighting the severity of crimes committed by those apprehended in the enforcement operation.

“While elected officials and media pundits across the country were zealously trying to manipulate the American public with fake news stories about ICE’s public safety mission, the brave men and women of ICE were quietly going about their business to arrest and remove more than 400 dangerous child predators from our local communities,” said Gabriel Martinez, ICE ERO Houston acting Field Office Director.

The Trump administration has prioritized cracking down on illegal immigration since returning to office, with these arrests reflecting the administration’s intensified focus on removing individuals with serious criminal records who are in the country unlawfully.

Among those arrested was Juan Leonardo Garcia Ibarra, a 48-year-old Mexican national with an extensive criminal history. According to ICE, Garcia Ibarra had illegally reentered the United States 12 times and had been convicted of multiple serious offenses, including sexual indecency with a child, aggravated assault, cruelty toward a child, driving while intoxicated, and felony illegal reentry. He was deported to Mexico on April 7, 2025, following his arrest on April 4.

The enforcement operations also led to the arrest of Andrew Mark Watson, a United Kingdom national. Watson was taken into custody on December 5, 2025, after being convicted of two counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and sexually exploiting a minor. He remains in ICE custody at the IAH Secure Adult Detention Facility in Livingston, Texas, pending the resolution of his immigration proceedings.

Another significant arrest involved Alex Samuel Lara Diaz, a 35-year-old previously deported Honduran national who was apprehended on October 29, 2025. Lara Diaz had been convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a minor and was also wanted in Honduras for homicide. Following his arrest, ICE officers deported him to Honduras on December 13, 2025, where he was turned over to Honduran authorities to face homicide charges.

The substantial increase in arrests comes amid ongoing national debates about immigration enforcement policies. While critics of aggressive immigration enforcement have raised concerns about potential civil liberties issues, ICE officials emphasize that these operations target individuals who pose serious public safety threats.

Immigration enforcement has been a cornerstone of the Trump administration’s policy agenda, with particular emphasis on removing those with criminal backgrounds. This approach represents a significant shift from the more selective enforcement priorities that characterized the Biden administration’s immigration policies.

The Houston field office’s operations cover Southeast Texas, an area that has historically seen significant immigration activity due to its proximity to the southern border. The region serves as a key transit point for migration routes into the United States, making it a focal point for immigration enforcement efforts.

“Thanks to their tireless efforts, parents across Southeast Texas can sleep a little better tonight knowing that these pedophiles and child rapists are no longer a threat to their children,” Martinez added, underscoring the public safety dimension of the agency’s enforcement actions.

As the administration continues its immigration enforcement efforts, these arrests highlight the complex intersection of immigration policy, criminal justice, and public safety concerns that remain at the center of national immigration debates.
