ICE Continues Operations Despite Super Bowl Criticism, Arrests Multiple Violent Offenders

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested numerous individuals with serious criminal convictions over Super Bowl weekend, even as the agency faced criticism during the high-profile sporting event, according to Department of Homeland Security officials.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital that “despite smears from Hollywood, ICE is making our country safer every single day.” The statement came in response to controversy surrounding Latin trap artist Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance.

“While ICE law enforcement officers were demonized at the Super Bowl, our officers were risking their lives to arrest public safety threats from American neighborhoods,” a DHS spokesperson said.

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Ocasio, has been an outspoken critic of ICE. At the recent Grammy Awards, he remarked “ICE out,” adding, “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens — we are humans, and we are Americans.” He reportedly went further in a social media post last June, using expletives to criticize ICE agents.

The controversy highlights the increasingly polarized debate over immigration enforcement in the United States, with ICE finding itself at the center of cultural and political disputes.

Among those arrested over the weekend was Mario Rosales-Figueroa, an undocumented Mexican national detained in Visalia, California, who was convicted of sex with a minor. In Las Vegas, agents arrested Salvadoran national Luis Edenilson Ortiz-Lopez, convicted of gross or open lewdness, and Colombian national Guillermo Arturo Ramirez-Londono, who was convicted of two counts of sexual assault on a minor under 14 years old.

On the East Coast, ICE agents detained Rudy Roa-Fuentes, a Dominican Republic national convicted of murder, and Anderson Mejia-Bonilla from El Salvador, who was convicted of rape, both in New York. In Pennsylvania, agents arrested Guatemalan national Eduardo Ramos-Domingo, convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Other arrests included Darwin Sorto-Pineda in North Carolina, Wilson Perez-Guzman in Missouri, Tung Huy Nguyen in Ohio, and Gustavo Alvarado-Sanchez in Texas, all with various criminal convictions including statutory sodomy, gross sexual imposition, and kidnapping.

McLaughlin emphasized that 70 percent of ICE arrests involve undocumented individuals charged or convicted of crimes in the United States. “This statistic doesn’t even include foreign fugitives, terrorists, and gang members who lack a rap sheet in the U.S.,” she added.

The DHS official also expressed concern about the safety of ICE personnel, claiming that “heated rhetoric about ICE law enforcement is leading to our officers facing a more than 1,300% increase in assaults against them.”

The controversy surrounding ICE’s operations has become increasingly politicized in recent years. President Donald Trump and many conservatives criticized Bad Bunny’s performance and comments, while others defend the artist’s right to speak out against immigration policies they consider unjust.

The debate reflects broader national tensions over immigration policy, with ICE often serving as a focal point. While critics argue that the agency’s enforcement tactics are sometimes excessive, supporters maintain that their operations are essential for public safety.

As immigration remains a key issue in American politics, these arrests during a high-profile weekend demonstrate the ongoing work of federal immigration authorities, even as their role continues to be debated in the public square.
