Police Confirm TikToker’s Rape Allegation Amid Public Skepticism
A controversial rape allegation by a popular TikToker known as Mirabel has sparked intense public debate, with police officials now confirming the validity of her claims despite skepticism from neighbors and social media users.
Mirabel, who posts under the handle @mirab351, shared a disturbing account earlier this week alleging she was sexually assaulted in her apartment on Sunday, February 15. According to her detailed video testimony, the incident occurred around 9 a.m. after she had been struggling with insomnia and had consumed alcohol to help her sleep.
“I got raped yesterday in my own apartment,” Mirabel explained in her initial post. “I heard a knock on my door. I thought maybe it was one of my neighbors.” She described being violently pushed back upon opening the door, hitting her head on a refrigerator, and losing consciousness.
Her account included disturbing details about waking to find a man assaulting her, with cloth stuffed in her mouth to prevent her from screaming. Mirabel also claimed the attacker used a razor blade to cut her body, causing bleeding that she initially mistook for menstruation.
The situation escalated when Mirabel posted that she later received messages from someone identifying himself as “Priston,” who allegedly confessed to the attack. According to screenshots she shared, the sender claimed they had met twice before and that she had rejected his advances. The message contained threatening language, including boasts that his father “has the money to bury the case right before it gets to court.”
In a follow-up video posted Tuesday, Mirabel revealed she had attempted suicide by consuming a pesticide known locally as “Sniper” but was rescued by friends who took her to a hospital. “I took a sniper yesterday, and my friend came back and saw me in the backyard and took me to the hospital,” she explained, apologizing to her followers for the suicide attempt.
However, Mirabel’s account quickly came under scrutiny when neighbors disputed key elements of her story in their own social media posts. An unnamed male neighbor claimed during a live TikTok session that “no one dared enter our gate to do such a thing.” He further alleged that Mirabel had previously fabricated stories, including a recent claim about her mother’s death that prompted financial donations from sympathetic neighbors.
“She claimed she drank Sniper and was taken to the hospital, but we saw her when she was leaving the compound yesterday morning and she walked perfectly,” the neighbor stated, challenging her to provide medical documentation of her assault and poisoning.
Another female neighbor corroborated this account, saying Mirabel was seen “walking perfectly” in baggy jeans as she left the compound with someone who had come to pick her up.
Despite these conflicting narratives, the Ogun State Police Command has validated Mirabel’s allegations. Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed to journalists that preliminary investigations indicate the assault did occur in the Ogijo area of Ogun State.
“The Ogun State Police Command, upon receiving information about the incident, directed the Divisional Police Officer, Ibafo Division, to immediately reach out to the victim,” Babaseyi explained. “She was able to report at the Ibafo Police Station today, where the facts of the case were obtained.”
Contrary to rumors circulating online that Mirabel had been arrested for making false accusations, Babaseyi clarified that she had instead been taken to a medical facility for treatment. “She was promptly escorted to a medical facility for assessment and urgent attention. Following preliminary treatment, she was conveyed to the Ogijo Police Station, the jurisdiction where the incident occurred.”
The police spokesperson emphasized that authorities are taking the case seriously, noting that Mirabel has been referred for “extensive medical care” due to her “fragile condition” while the investigation continues.
“The Command remains fully committed to ensuring her safety, wellbeing, and the diligent pursuit of justice in this matter,” Babaseyi concluded.
The case highlights the complex nature of sexual assault allegations in the digital age, where social media can simultaneously provide victims with platforms to seek support while subjecting their accounts to intense public scrutiny.
