Telangana Chief Minister Launches Scathing Attack on Opposition in Jubilee Hills Campaign

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy intensified his campaign efforts in Hyderabad on Friday, launching a blistering critique of both the BJP and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) while urging voters in the Jubilee Hills constituency to prioritize development over emotional appeals ahead of the upcoming by-election.

Addressing enthusiastic crowds in Vengalrao Nagar and Yellareddyguda, Reddy accused both opposition parties of betraying Telangana’s interests and resorting to divisive politics instead of addressing genuine public concerns.

“The BJP government at the Centre lacked the courage to continue bombing Pakistan after it attacked India, but today it is seeking votes in Telangana in the name of ‘carpet bombing,'” Reddy declared, taking aim at the BJP’s aggressive campaign rhetoric in the state.

The Chief Minister reserved equal criticism for the BRS, particularly regarding their candidate Maganti Sunitha, widow of late MLA Maganti Gopinath. He urged voters not to be swayed by emotional appeals, stating, “This is not about tears or sympathy; it’s about truth and development.”

Reddy highlighted what he described as political hypocrisy, recalling the 2008 Khairatabad by-election when former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) had fielded a BRS candidate despite opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu suggesting a unanimous election favoring the son of deceased leader P Janardhan Reddy (PJR).

“What moral right do they now have to talk about sentiment and sacrifice?” Reddy questioned, alleging that the BRS and BJP continue to maintain a “secret understanding” that began during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress leader pointed to the neighboring Secunderabad Cantonment constituency as a success story, where Congress candidate Sri Ganesh secured victory in last year’s by-election. “He brought ₹4,000 crore worth of development projects – elevated corridors, better roads, and drainage works. Jubilee Hills too deserves that scale of transformation,” Reddy said.

In his appeal to voters, the Chief Minister emphasized that neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, nor BRS Working President KT Rama Rao had delivered meaningful development for Jubilee Hills. Instead, he advocated for Congress candidate Naveen Yadav, describing him as a “young, educated leader who grew up in these very lanes.”

Reddy highlighted ongoing welfare initiatives implemented by his administration, including free bus travel for women, fine rice distribution, ration cards, 200 units of free electricity, and nearly ₹400 crore worth of local infrastructure works. He claimed these programs demonstrate Congress’s commitment to public welfare.

The Chief Minister accused KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao of attempting to undermine these welfare schemes, claiming, “They even instigated auto drivers against free bus travel for women. If BRS wins here, these schemes will stop and progress will stall.”

Making a targeted appeal to women voters, Reddy criticized KCR for not appointing a single woman minister between 2014 and 2018. He also referenced the case of K Kavitha, KCR’s daughter and former MP, who was recently imprisoned in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

“They talk of women’s empowerment but silence their own sister. Kavitha accused her family of looting Telangana’s wealth. She was sent to jail and upon her return, KTR did not support her, leaving her to fight alone,” Reddy claimed.

Concluding his campaign speech, Reddy announced plans to install a statue of former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao near Maitrivanam in Ameerpet, calling him “a beloved icon” of both Telugu states. He personally directed Naveen Yadav and MP Anil Kumar Yadav to oversee the installation process.

The Jubilee Hills by-election has become a critical test for all major political parties in Telangana, with the Congress seeking to consolidate its position after forming the government last year, while the BRS and BJP attempt to regain political momentum in the state.
