Fox News Issues Apology for Airing Incorrect Trump Footage During Military Tribute

Fox News has apologized after its morning program “Fox & Friends” aired outdated footage of former President Donald Trump during coverage of a dignified transfer ceremony for six U.S. service members killed in Kuwait.

The network acknowledged that it mistakenly showed footage from a 2025 Dover Air Force Base ceremony rather than Saturday’s solemn event, creating a misleading impression about Trump’s appearance and conduct during the recent ceremony.

In the March 7 ritual at Dover Air Force Base, Trump wore a white “USA” baseball cap, which he did not remove during the proceedings. However, the footage erroneously shown by Fox News depicted the former president without a hat, respectfully saluting fallen soldiers at a different ceremony that took place on December 17, 2025, honoring two Iowa National Guard members and an interpreter killed in Syria.

Following widespread criticism on social media, Fox News delivered an on-air correction. “We inadvertently aired video from an older dignified transfer instead of the ceremony that took place yesterday,” a Fox News host stated. “We deeply regret the error and extend our respective condolences to the service members’ families. We honor the sacrifice of those six American heroes.”

In a separate statement provided to The Mirror US, a Fox News representative explained: “FOX News Media programs inadvertently aired file footage from a previous dignified transfer while discussing yesterday’s ceremony at Dover Air Force Base. The archival footage was mistakenly used during the video sourcing process. We regret the error and apologize for the incorrect footage.”

The discrepancy was first highlighted by social media account BadFoxGraphics, which described the incident as a “shocking example of MAGA propaganda.” The account, which has over 40,000 followers but is not affiliated with Fox News, pointed out that the incorrect footage appeared to mask the fact that Trump wore a baseball cap during the recent ceremony.

The post gained significant traction online, with journalist Aaron Rupar claiming that Fox & Friends shared the older footage to “mislead their audience about the fact that Trump wore a baseball cap during the one yesterday.”

The controversy centers on Trump’s decision to wear a white and gold baseball hat—a $55 item from his official campaign merchandise—during Saturday’s dignified transfer. In contrast, during the December 17 ceremony, Trump wore a dark suit without a hat.

Trump’s attire at the recent ceremony drew criticism from several prominent figures. California Governor Gavin Newsom called Trump a “disgusting little man” for wearing the cap throughout the solemn ritual, while Trump’s niece expressed her dismay on social media, writing: “With all of the horrors he’s unleashing on the world, I know this is not the biggest deal, but he is such an unspeakable disgrace.”

The incident reflects ongoing tensions in how media outlets cover political figures during somber military occasions. A dignified transfer, as described by Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations, is “not a ceremony” but rather a “solemn movement” involving the transport of fallen military personnel’s remains at Dover Air Force Base.

This mistake comes at a time of heightened scrutiny of media coverage, particularly involving political figures at military events. Critics on social media responded harshly to the error, with some accusing Fox News of “disrespecting dead troops to make Trump look better” and spreading “propaganda at the expense of dead soldiers.”

The network’s swift apology underscores the sensitivity surrounding coverage of military casualties and the importance of accurate reporting during these solemn occasions.
