Progressive Rep. Jasmine Crockett Under Scrutiny for Luxury Spending While Running Senate Campaign
Federal Election Commission records reveal that Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic rising star running for the U.S. Senate in Texas, spent over $124,000 from her campaign funds on luxury accommodations, high-end transportation, and private security services in 2025.
The expenditures have raised eyebrows given Crockett’s public positioning as a champion fighting against what she terms a “system of greed” and her criticism of former President Donald Trump as a “slick con man” only concerned about pleasing wealthy interests.
According to FEC filings, Crockett allocated $32,685 to luxury hotels alone, with nearly $12,000 spent in the final quarter of 2025 as she launched her Senate campaign. The accommodations included stays at prestigious establishments such as the Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Hotel Zaza, Kimpton, and the five-star Los Angeles West Hollywood Edition.
Transportation costs added another layer to the spending pattern, with approximately $11,738 directed toward limousine and luxury car services throughout the year. In the last three months of 2025, Crockett’s campaigns paid $5,446 to Bay Area Lux Limos in California and Detailed Drivers, described as a “white-glove” transportation service.
The most substantial expenditure category was private security, totaling nearly $80,000 in 2025, with over $30,000 spent during the final quarter. This spending has attracted particular attention due to Crockett’s previous statements supporting the “Defund the Police” movement.
In 2021, while serving in the Texas House of Representatives, Crockett characterized the Defund movement as an effort to “bring about healing” and “invest in our communities,” arguing it represented a more fiscally responsible approach to public safety. “Defund is about finally being smart on crime,” she stated at the time.
Since entering Congress in 2023, Crockett has established herself as a prominent Democratic voice and fierce critic of the Trump administration. Her outspoken style has occasionally generated controversy, including a comment calling for then-Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk to be “taken down” and referring to wheelchair-bound Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “governor hot wheels.” Crockett later claimed both comments were misinterpreted or taken out of context.
In her Senate campaign, Crockett has positioned herself as the only candidate who has “gone toe-to-toe with Trump.” During a recent debate with Democratic primary opponent State Rep. James Talarico, she advocated for impeachment proceedings against the former president, stating, “I think that there is more than enough to impeach.”
Crockett has also been vocal in criticizing Trump’s immigration policies, comparing his enforcement campaign to Nazi Germany and accusing the Supreme Court of sanctioning “modern-day slave patrols.” Additionally, she joined more than 70 House Democrats in co-sponsoring articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, citing “systemic abuses of power” and “violations of civil and constitutional rights.”
The Texas U.S. Senate primary is scheduled for March 3. The Democratic nominee will face off against either incumbent Senator John Cornyn, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, or Representative Wesley Hunt in the November general election.
The juxtaposition of Crockett’s campaign spending and her political messaging highlights the ongoing tension in American politics between public rhetoric and personal practices. As candidates navigate increasingly expensive political campaigns, questions about appropriate use of campaign funds continue to arise across the political spectrum.
Fox News Digital reported it reached out to the Crockett campaign for comment on the expenditures, but no response was mentioned in the report.
