Former Vice President Kamala Harris faced widespread criticism online Friday after attempting to impersonate President Donald Trump as a “mob boss” during a speech at the National Action Network forum, an organization founded by civil rights activist Al Sharpton.

During her remarks, Harris criticized the administration’s foreign policy approach, particularly what she described as Trump’s “America First” ideology that she claims has led to a withdrawal from international relationships.

“And then he kind of acts like a mob boss,” Harris said. “So, then he’s kind of like, ‘Oh, well, you know, you take Eastern Europe, and I’ll take the Western Hemisphere. And then you over there, you, you get Asia, and we’ll just divide it up,’ right?”

The former vice president’s attempted impersonation quickly drew fire on social media, with critics calling it “cringe-worthy” and mocking her delivery. Eric Daugherty, a right-leaning social media personality, simply posted “JUST IN: CRINGE” in response to the video clip.

A Republican campaign account noted sarcastically that Harris had added “mafia boss” to her “list of embarrassing accents,” while Steve Guest, a former Republican staffer for Senator Ted Cruz, compiled Harris’s various accent attempts over time, writing: “Kamala Harris just debuted a new accent: Mob boss. Despite a childhood in Berkeley, California and Montreal, Canada, Kamala has what she thinks is a Detroit accent.”

The timing of Harris’s comments comes during a particularly sensitive diplomatic period. President Trump is currently engaged in attempting to broker peace negotiations with Iran while simultaneously working to persuade European allies to pressure Tehran to reopen waterways vital to international energy trade.

Earlier this week, Trump reached a tentative two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran, though the exact terms remain unclear. The diplomatic situation is complex, with Iran presenting a list of 10 demands that appear to contradict American expectations for conflict resolution. These Iranian demands include lifting all sanctions, maintaining control over key regional waterways, U.S. military withdrawal from the Middle East, and a suspension of hostilities against Iran and its proxies.

Trump has expressed frustration with NATO allies for not providing more support during the current tensions with Iran. “NATO WASN’T THERE WHEN WE NEEDED THEM, AND THEY WON’T BE THERE IF WE NEED THEM AGAIN,” the president posted on Truth Social on Wednesday.

The ongoing diplomatic efforts remain precarious, with negotiations between the United States and Iran scheduled to continue in Pakistan on Saturday. These talks represent a critical juncture in Middle East relations and global energy security, as the reopening of vital waterways would significantly impact international shipping and oil prices.

Harris, who has maintained a public presence since her unsuccessful presidential campaign, has been promoting her book “107 Days,” which details her 2024 presidential run. Her appearances at events like the National Action Network forum provide platforms for her continued criticism of the administration’s policies, particularly regarding international relations and diplomatic strategy.

Foreign policy experts have noted that the outcome of the U.S.-Iran negotiations could have far-reaching implications for regional stability, global energy markets, and America’s relationships with both allies and adversaries in the Middle East. As these delicate talks progress, domestic political commentary like Harris’s remarks highlight the partisan divide over America’s approach to international relations.
