Metro Atlanta Mayor Refutes Rumors and Misinformation About Proposed Data Center

Officials in Social Circle, Georgia, are addressing concerns about a proposed data center project that has sparked controversy among local residents. Mayor David Keener is working to dispel what he calls “misinformation” about the development, which would be located near the city’s downtown area.

“We want to make sure that our citizens have accurate information,” Keener said during a recent city council meeting. “There has been a lot of discussion on social media that contains inaccurate statements about what this project entails.”

The proposed data center, which would be built on approximately 100 acres of land, has generated significant public interest since plans were first announced last month. Residents have raised questions about potential noise pollution, water usage, and environmental impact.

Industry analysts note that data center construction has become a significant economic driver nationwide. According to research firm Synergy Research Group, U.S. data center investments exceeded $40 billion in 2022, a figure expected to grow substantially over the next decade.

City officials have scheduled additional public information sessions for the coming weeks. They plan to present detailed analyses of the project’s potential impacts on traffic, noise levels, and utility systems.

“We understand this is a significant development for our community,” Keener said. “We want to make decisions based on facts, not rumors or misunderstandings.”

The city council is expected to vote on preliminary approvals for the project next month, though final agreements would still require additional regulatory steps and environmental assessments.
