Meta’s decision to end its fact-checking program in the U.S. by March 2025 has sparked concerns about a potential surge in climate misinformation across its platforms. The move represents a significant shift in how Facebook and Instagram will handle false information, particularly during climate-related emergencies when accurate data is crucial for public safety.

Currently, Meta relies on third-party fact-checkers to identify misleading content and attach warning labels to posts containing false claims.
