Security Guard in Chappell Roan Hotel Incident Disputes Family’s Claims, Defends Actions

The security guard at the center of a controversial incident involving pop star Chappell Roan and actor Jude Law’s 11-year-old daughter in São Paulo, Brazil has come forward to dispute the dramatic claims made by the girl’s family, offering a significantly different account of what transpired.

Pascal Duvier stated on Instagram that his interaction with Ada Law and her mother, Catherine Harding, was “calm and with good intentions,” contradicting allegations that he had aggressively confronted them. Duvier took “full responsibility” for the incident but emphasized he was not part of Roan’s security team.

“I do not normally address online rumors, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation,” Duvier wrote. He explained he was at the hotel representing “another individual” and had made a “judgment call” based on unspecified security concerns and “heightened overall security risk” at the location.

The controversy erupted last weekend when Brazilian soccer star Jorginho, Harding’s husband and Ada’s stepfather, publicly claimed on Instagram that his stepdaughter and wife were berated at their São Paulo hotel for allegedly getting too close to Roan during breakfast. According to Jorginho, Ada merely walked past Roan’s table to confirm it was the singer before returning to sit with her mother.

“A large security guard” then approached them and spoke “in an extremely aggressive manner,” accusing Harding of allowing her daughter to “disrespect” or “harass” other people, Jorginho claimed. He stated the confrontation left Ada “shaken and in tears” and directly attacked Roan with the statement: “Without your fans you would be nobody.”

Roan quickly responded with her own account, confirming that the guard was “not my personal security” and stating she never witnessed any interaction. “No one came up to me, no one bothered me. Like, I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel, and I think these people were staying at the hotel as well,” Roan said in a video clip.

The singer expressed sympathy for the mother and child, saying: “I’m sorry to the mother and child, that someone was assuming something, that you would do something, and if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not hate that.”

Despite Roan’s apology, Harding continued to air grievances publicly. She posted photos of Ada with singer Lewis Capaldi, who also performed at Lollapalooza Brasil, seemingly to contrast his welcoming attitude with her perception of Roan. In an Instagram video, Harding suggested Roan had not taken full responsibility and questioned whether the security guard had acted with Roan’s authority.

The incident has sparked broader discussions about celebrity-fan interactions and the boundaries of privacy. Slate writer Christina Cauterucci criticized both Jorginho and Harding for turning what she called a “misunderstanding” into an “international witch hunt,” arguing that as a public figure with over 5 million Instagram followers, Jorginho should have exercised more caution before “smearing someone else as a jerk.”

This controversy follows ongoing discussions about Roan’s complicated relationship with fame. The 28-year-old singer has previously faced criticism for setting boundaries on fan interactions outside of performances and official events.

Harding, a former singer and TV presenter also known as Cat Cavelli, had Ada with Jude Law following a brief relationship in 2014. She is now based in Rio de Janeiro with her husband Jorginho.

As the conflicting accounts continue to circulate, the incident highlights the often complex dynamics between celebrities, their security teams, and the public, particularly when children are involved.
