A viral video circulating across social media platforms since April 5, 2026, allegedly showing U.S. troops arriving at the Pakistan-Iran border for a ground offensive, has been debunked as false by Tempo’s fact-checking team.

The misleading footage, which appeared on Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), combines several unrelated military clips with the caption: “Tensions are rising, U.S. ground troops have arrived at the Pakistan-Iran border.” The compilation includes soldiers in desert-colored uniforms in a scrubland area, an aircraft carrier at sea, and troops conducting a beach landing.

Through reverse image searches and comparison with credible media reports, Tempo has determined that none of the footage actually depicts current U.S. military operations near the Iran-Pakistan border.

The first segment showing a line of soldiers in grassland has been circulating on social media since January 2026, well before the United States and Israel launched attacks on February 28. While some accounts claim the footage shows Pakistan’s Tirah Valley in Khyber Province bordering Afghanistan, this location claim remains unverified.

The second clip, appearing at the 22-second mark, actually depicts the Atlantic Alliance 2025 military exercise. According to documentation from the U.S. Army Reserve Innovation Command, this exercise took place on the U.S. East Coast in 2025 and was designed to improve integrated coastal warfare capabilities. AFP fact-checkers previously identified this same footage being misrepresented in 2024 as showing a U.S. troop landing in Taiwan.

The third segment featuring an aircraft carrier at sea was originally uploaded to TikTok by an account called US.pilot.force on December 8, 2025, months before the current conflict with Iran escalated.

The misleading compilation emerges amid heightened tensions in the region. President Trump had previously threatened a ground attack on Iran to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint through which approximately 20% of global oil shipments pass. However, according to ABC News, the United States subsequently announced a two-week ceasefire and opened diplomatic channels for negotiations.

Regional stability remains precarious despite these diplomatic efforts. Tempo reported that Israel conducted new strikes in Lebanon on April 8, 2026, targeting positions allegedly held by Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group. This action threatens to further destabilize the fragile ceasefire.

The circulation of this misleading video highlights the ongoing challenge of misinformation during international conflicts. Social media platforms have become battlegrounds for information warfare, with decontextualized or manipulated footage often spreading rapidly during times of geopolitical tension.

Military analysts note that genuine U.S. troop deployments of this scale would be widely reported by mainstream news outlets and formally acknowledged by defense officials. No such announcements have been made regarding deployments to the Pakistan-Iran border.

The false narrative surrounding this video is particularly dangerous as it could inflame regional tensions and create misunderstandings among populations already concerned about potential escalation in the conflict. Pakistan, which shares a 959-kilometer border with Iran, has historically maintained a delicate diplomatic balance in regional conflicts.

Tempo’s fact-checking team continues to monitor claims related to the ongoing situation and encourages readers to verify information through multiple reliable sources before sharing potentially misleading content on social media platforms.
