Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of deliberately stalling U.S.-brokered peace negotiations, claiming Moscow is attempting to manipulate President Trump as the war enters its fifth year.

Speaking to Fox News from his heavily guarded office complex in Kyiv, Zelenskyy firmly rejected suggestions from President Trump that Ukraine is the party holding up the peace process. “We always supported peace,” Zelenskyy stated. “When you are at your home, in your house, on your territory, in your city, of course you want to stop it.”

Instead, the Ukrainian leader pointed the finger at Moscow, alleging that Russia is strategically prolonging discussions to avoid making meaningful concessions. “They try to play with the president of the United States,” Zelenskyy said. When asked if he believed Vladimir Putin was engaging in strategic game-playing, Zelenskyy responded affirmatively: “Yeah, I think so. Yeah. He needs to postpone any kind of negotiations.”

The interview took place in Zelenskyy’s Kyiv offices, where security measures remain paramount. The complex features dimmed lights and sandbag-reinforced corridors, while walls are adorned with towering 12-foot portraits of Ukrainian soldiers – a stark reminder of the human cost of the conflict that has now stretched into its fifth year.

Ukraine’s position in the peace talks appears to focus on maintaining current battle lines rather than surrendering territory. Zelenskyy indicated his country is prepared to freeze the conflict along existing front lines and has proposed implementing a ceasefire followed by substantive negotiations. However, he emphasized that Ukraine would not yield to Russian demands to surrender territory that Moscow’s forces have failed to capture during four years of fighting.

The prolonged conflict has undoubtedly taken its toll on Ukrainian society. Zelenskyy acknowledged that war weariness exists among some Ukrainians, but he maintained that current peace proposals heavily favor Russian interests. “Everybody wants peace, and a lot of people are tired,” he admitted. “But believe me, not everybody is ready… to eat what Putin cooked for us.”

The Ukrainian president extended an invitation to President Trump to visit Ukraine, suggesting such a trip would provide the American leader with firsthand insights into both the devastation of Russian attacks and the resilience of the Ukrainian people. “He will see such a result of the attacks. And he will see how the nation really lives. Not just surviving,” Zelenskyy said.

Despite enormous losses throughout the conflict, Zelenskyy portrayed Ukraine’s resistance as a significant achievement. “Russia couldn’t and can’t occupy us. They didn’t win, and for us it’s a victory. We defended our independence and freedom,” he declared with evident pride. “They didn’t change the country. They didn’t change our flag.”

The war in Ukraine has emerged as one of the most significant geopolitical crises of the decade, drawing in major global powers and reshaping security dynamics across Europe. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties, displaced millions of Ukrainians, and inflicted severe damage on the country’s infrastructure and economy.

U.S. diplomatic efforts have intensified in recent months, with the Biden administration attempting to broker an agreement that could end the bloodshed. However, fundamental disagreements over territorial sovereignty and Ukraine’s future security arrangements continue to complicate negotiations.

As the conflict grinds on, international attention remains focused on whether diplomatic initiatives can finally bring an end to the fighting. Zelenskyy’s forceful message suggests that while Ukraine desires peace, it will not accept terms that undermine its sovereignty or reward Russia’s military aggression.

“I’m sure that Russia recognized — really recognizes now — that it was a big mistake,” Zelenskyy concluded, suggesting that despite Moscow’s continued military pressure, the invasion has failed to achieve its strategic objectives.
