Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been connected to two luxury apartments in London’s exclusive Kensington neighborhood that provide direct views into the Israeli Embassy compound, according to multiple media reports detailing findings from a year-long investigation.

The multimillion-dollar properties, which sit less than 50 meters from one of Israel’s most sensitive diplomatic installations, were acquired in 2014 and 2016 through intermediaries, according to UK media outlets including The Times of London, which reported on March 5 that one building “sits next to the Israeli Embassy on Palace Green.”

Security experts have raised significant concerns about the strategic positioning of these apartments. Roger Macmillan, former security director at Iranian dissident channel Iran International, described the situation as “a serious security breach,” adding that the properties represent “not a property portfolio — it’s a permanent surveillance platform” due to their unobstructed line of sight into the embassy compound.

The revelations emerged from a Bloomberg investigation that suggests Khamenei’s global property holdings could be far more extensive than previously known. The report alleges his portfolio spans multiple countries and includes high-value real estate worth approximately $138 million across London, other European locations, and Gulf states.

According to the investigation, the London acquisitions were structured through a complex network of intermediaries and shell companies. A businessman reportedly acted as a financial conduit, purchasing high-end properties on Khamenei’s behalf and channeling funds through various investment vehicles. The Financial Times has published similar findings connecting Khamenei’s associates to luxury assets throughout Europe.

Beyond the two apartments overlooking the Israeli Embassy, the investigation uncovered links to eleven mansions on what’s commonly known as London’s “Billionaire’s Row,” allegedly purchased through an Isle of Man shell company to obscure their ultimate ownership.

The proximity of these properties to the Israeli Embassy takes on heightened significance given the longstanding tensions between Iran and Israel, which have escalated dramatically in recent months following Israel’s military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, and Iran’s direct missile strike against Israel in April.

Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, has long been viewed as an influential figure within Iran’s ruling establishment. He was selected as the country’s new supreme leader by the Assembly of Experts following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a strike on a Tehran compound on February 28. Despite assuming the country’s most powerful position, the younger Khamenei has maintained an unusually low profile and has not made any public appearances since his selection.

The United States government has placed Mojtaba Khamenei under sanctions and recently offered a $10 million reward for information about him and top officials in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), underscoring his importance in Iran’s power structure and international relations.

The discovery of these strategically positioned properties raises new questions about the Iranian regime’s intelligence gathering capabilities and operations in the United Kingdom, a key Western ally of Israel. It also highlights potential security vulnerabilities at diplomatic facilities when neighboring properties fall into the hands of hostile foreign entities.

British authorities have not publicly commented on the reported property connections or whether they plan to take any action regarding the security implications of having properties linked to Iran’s supreme leader overlooking a sensitive Israeli diplomatic facility in central London.
