Grupo Frontera Celebrates Grammy Nominations as Career Momentum Builds

“The cool thing is that they are from Los Angeles and we are from Texas,” Payo explained. “We kind of have a certain style that we grew up listening to… I feel that that was a super perfect fusion.”

The project saw Grupo Frontera reunite with acclaimed Mexican producer Edgar Barrera, who has received his third consecutive Grammy nomination for songwriter of the year. At Barrera’s suggestion, the band also branched out to work with other collaborators, including Tito Double P, Los Dareyes de la Sierra, Ozuna, and Myke Towers.
“Lo que me falta por llorar” also represents an artistic evolution for the group, as they’ve allowed themselves to explore deeper emotional territory. “Normally, our lyrics are sad, but the music is happy,” Payo noted. “With this album, we try to make the sad songs actually sound sad.”
The band’s growing popularity was evident when they joined global superstar Bad Bunny at one of his eight sold-out concerts in Mexico City to perform their hit collaboration “Un x100to.” This appearance further solidified their crossover appeal between traditional Mexican music and contemporary urban genres.
Recent months have seen continued productivity with releases like “Beses así” with Calle 24 and the music video for “Se me sale,” keeping fans engaged while the band prepared for their next major move.
That next step is a highly anticipated international tour that will take Grupo Frontera across Latin America and Europe. The upcoming tour marks a welcome return to live performances after a deliberate break focused on creating new music. “We decided to take a break because, last year, we were releasing songs recorded right on stage,” Payo explained, noting that their hit “Quédate, bebé” was actually recorded during a soundcheck. “To be honest, we didn’t realize just how much we would miss being up there.”
