In a recent television appearance, a guest on Newsmax’s “Chris Plante: The Right Squad” strongly rejected allegations of genocide against Israel, calling such claims “an intentional method of propaganda” designed to turn global opinion against the country.

The controversy stems from Israel’s military response following the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and over a hundred hostages taken. Within weeks of Israel’s counteroffensive, accusations of genocide began circulating internationally.

According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, which does not differentiate between civilian and combatant casualties, more than 60,000 people have been killed during the ongoing conflict. These figures have fueled the debate about Israel’s military conduct and proportionality of response.

The dispute escalated to legal arenas when the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing alleged war crimes. The ICC simultaneously issued a warrant for Mohammed Deif, a Hamas leader, though reports indicated he had been killed prior to the warrant’s issuance. Other Hamas leaders, including Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh, were also reported dead around this time.

The genocide allegations have created political divisions even within the United States. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, broke ranks with her party by publicly characterizing the Gaza conflict as “genocide” and advocated for cutting off funding to Israel ahead of September’s government funding deadline. Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont, became the first U.S. senator to use the term “genocide” in reference to the conflict last month.

During her Newsmax appearance, the guest emphasized the importance of former President Donald Trump’s regional approach, suggesting that Saudi involvement would expose what she characterized as falsehoods surrounding genocide claims. She specifically pointed to Chinese influence on TikTok and propaganda on X (formerly Twitter) as contributing to the spread of these allegations.

The ongoing peace negotiations have shown some progress. Trump’s proposed peace deal includes provisions for Hamas disarmament and offers amnesty to members who surrender their weapons. Early results have included a ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid delivery, though tensions remain. Israeli authorities have reportedly reduced the planned number of aid trucks entering Gaza by half, citing Hamas’s delayed return of deceased hostages as the reason.

For long-term governance in Gaza, Trump has proposed establishing a “Board of Peace,” described as a “temporary transitional” authority consisting of a “technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee.” This body would manage daily public services and municipal operations in Gaza under Trump’s oversight.

The conflict continues to generate intense debate over terminology, with significant political and diplomatic consequences. Those rejecting the genocide label argue that Israel is exercising its right to self-defense following a terrorist attack, while critics maintain that the scale of civilian casualties and destruction in Gaza warrants the designation.

These divisions reflect broader geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and competing narratives about the appropriate balance between security concerns and humanitarian considerations in conflict zones.
