ISIS Networks Call for Attacks on Hindus Amid Growing Online Extremism
Online networks affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) have issued new calls for violence against Hindus across India and parts of South and Southeast Asia, according to a recent report by the Counter Extremism Project (CEP).

The CEP found that ISIS-affiliated groups have been closely monitoring attacks on American soil, including the March 7 attempted incident near Gracie Mansion in New York and the March 12 shooting at Old Dominion University. These events are being used as inspiration for potential sympathizers to conduct similar operations.
On messaging platforms such as Telegram and RocketChat, ISIS supporters openly praised two individuals accused of throwing explosive devices at an anti-Muslim protest in New York. Both suspects now face serious charges, including attempting to provide material support to ISIS and using a weapon of mass destruction. Online extremists described these suspects as “courageous,” while some expressed disappointment at the lack of casualties.

ISIS supporters subsequently glorified Jalloh as a “martyr” and celebrated the attack. The CEP noted that Jalloh had served eight years in prison after a 2016 conviction for attempting to support ISIS.
Alongside these targeted messages, ISIS has intensified its broader propaganda efforts. Between March 8 and 11, the group released four videos as part of a coordinated religious messaging campaign. One video explicitly called for new attacks, while another featured a Spanish national criticizing Western nations and accusing them of oppressing Muslims.
These propaganda materials spread rapidly across multiple platforms, including RocketChat, Telegram, Element, and various file-sharing websites. The CEP documented at least 42 separate uploads, though many were eventually removed by platform moderators.
The report also highlighted ISIS-linked accounts soliciting financial support online, sharing links and automated tools to collect funds from sympathizers.
Beyond the digital sphere, ISIS claimed responsibility for 24 physical attacks worldwide between March 8 and 14. These operations spanned multiple countries, including Somalia, Nigeria, Syria, Niger, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Pakistan.
Nigeria was particularly hard-hit, with 13 ISIS-claimed attacks primarily targeting military installations. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the group claimed to have killed 17 people described as Christians, taken approximately 100 captives, and conducted a separate assault on a Chinese-operated mining facility.
Security experts warn that this combination of targeted incitement, sophisticated online propaganda, and continued physical attacks demonstrates ISIS’s ongoing threat despite territorial losses in recent years.
