The Los Angeles Dodgers’ scouting department appears to have struck gold in their acquisition of outfield prospect Mike Sirota, a player they initially drafted but couldn’t sign, only to later acquire him in a shrewd trade with the Cincinnati Reds.
When the Dodgers sent Gavin Lux to Cincinnati last offseason, it wasn’t because Lux had become a problem. Rather, the infielder simply no longer fit into their plans following the signing of Hyeseong Kim. The return package, however, brought them Sirota—a prospect they had originally selected in the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft before he opted for college baseball instead.
The Reds eventually drafted Sirota in the third round of the 2024 draft, but the Dodgers’ front office orchestrated a reunion, acquiring their former draft pick along with a supplemental selection when they traded Lux.
That decision is looking increasingly prescient as Sirota, currently playing at the High-A level, finished the 2025 season ranked as the organization’s No. 5 prospect. What makes this development particularly notable is the extraordinary depth of outfield talent in the Dodgers’ farm system, with their top three prospects—Josue De Paula, Zyhir Hope, and Eduardo Quintero—all being outfielders.
Baseball America recently identified Quintero as their surprising top Dodgers prospect heading into 2026, but their assessment of Sirota was equally impressive. The publication declared him “the best hitter and the best athlete in the Dodgers’ system,” with scouts particularly praising “his hard-nosed style of play and outstanding makeup.”
Such enthusiastic evaluation raises questions about Sirota’s No. 3 ranking in Baseball America’s system hierarchy, especially considering the superlative nature of their comments about his abilities.
Sirota’s performance in 2025 certainly backs up the hype. After joining the Dodgers organization, he dominated at both Single-A and High-A levels. With the Single-A Quakes, he posted a remarkable .354 batting average and 1.130 OPS in just 24 games before earning a promotion. At High-A with the Loons, his production barely diminished, as he hit .316 with a 1.014 OPS.
His combined statistics across 59 games were eye-catching: 16 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, and 54 RBI. With this level of production, Sirota appears poised to begin the 2026 season at Double-A, continuing his rapid ascent through the Dodgers’ farm system.
The competition for future outfield spots in Los Angeles remains fierce. De Paula and Hope are already playing at Double-A, a level ahead of Sirota and Quintero. While De Paula is projected to reach the majors first among this talented group, Hope and Sirota may not be far behind.
This abundance of prospect talent has become a hallmark of the Dodgers organization, which consistently develops more major league-caliber players than they can accommodate on their roster. This reality often leads to speculation about whether certain prospects are being groomed primarily as trade chips to acquire established stars.
Nevertheless, the organization has shown a willingness to give homegrown talent opportunities at the highest level when the fit is right. Players like Andy Pages and Will Smith have successfully transitioned from prospects to key contributors at the major league level with Los Angeles.
Given his exceptional tools, performance, and the glowing assessments from baseball evaluators, Sirota appears to have a legitimate chance to follow that path, potentially becoming the next homegrown star to make a significant impact for the Dodgers at the major league level.
