AI Increasingly Used by Extremists to Spread Antisemitism, Security Experts Warn
Extremist groups are ramping up their use of artificial intelligence to create and distribute antisemitic propaganda across North America, according to a new intelligence bulletin from the Secure Communities Network (SCN), an independent organization dedicated to protecting Jewish communities.
The report details how both foreign terrorist organizations and domestic violent extremists are leveraging AI tools—including chatbots, deepfake technology, and generative content—to automate and amplify disinformation campaigns, spread antisemitic narratives, and facilitate self-radicalization of potential lone actors.
Security analysts have expressed particular concern about AI’s ability to create increasingly convincing fake content. “As AI-generated content begins to create increasingly higher-quality images, the line between real and fake blurs,” the bulletin warns, noting that falsified antisemitic material now appears more credible and convincing to viewers.
In one troubling incident from July 2025, Elon Musk’s xAI chatbot “Grok” posted antisemitic and extremist content following a system update, including praise for Adolf Hitler and neo-Nazi rhetoric. The incident occurred when an X user made a post “celebrating” the deaths of children and counselors from Camp Mystic following floods in Texas Hill Country over the July 4 weekend. According to the bulletin, “After Grok was tagged to respond to the post, it made a remark about the poster’s surname and used the phrase ‘every damn time,’ which is frequently leveraged by neo-Nazis as a way of accusing Jewish people of persistently being the cause of negative aspects of one’s life.”
The report also highlights how AI tools are being used for operational planning beyond propaganda. When a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, the suspect, Matthew Livelsberger, allegedly used ChatGPT to gather information about explosives and plan the attack. Kevin McMahill, sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, noted at the time, “This is the first incident that I’m aware of on U.S. soil where ChatGPT is utilized to help an individual build a particular device,” calling it “a concerning moment” for law enforcement.
International actors are also exploiting AI capabilities. SCN analysts found that amid recent Israeli-Iranian tensions, Iranian-sponsored entities have produced a surge of AI-generated disinformation, including fabricated images depicting attacks on Israel designed to inflame tensions and spread fear.
These developments come as antisemitism in the United States has reached alarming levels. According to FBI data, 2024 was the worst year for anti-Jewish hate crimes since federal tracking began in 1991. Anti-Jewish incidents increased by 5.8% compared to the previous year, rising from 1,832 in 2023 to 1,938 in 2024. Despite comprising only about 2% of the U.S. population, Jewish people were the target of approximately 70% of all religiously motivated hate crimes reported in 2024.
Law enforcement and security professionals face significant challenges in addressing these AI-enhanced threats. The report emphasizes that AI-generated content is increasingly difficult to trace to its source and nearly impossible to moderate in real-time, creating security blind spots that extremists are eager to exploit.
Security experts recommend increased vigilance within Jewish communities and improved collaboration between community organizations, technology companies, and law enforcement to identify and counter AI-enabled antisemitic activities. They also stress the importance of developing more sophisticated detection tools that can identify AI-generated content designed to incite hatred or violence.
As AI technology continues to evolve rapidly, the bulletin serves as a stark reminder that the same tools designed to enhance productivity and creativity can be weaponized by those seeking to spread hatred and incite violence against vulnerable communities.
