President Trump has endorsed Michael Alfonso, son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District seat. The endorsement came Tuesday night via a post on Truth Social, where Trump described Alfonso as a “WINNER” who “comes from a truly spectacular family.”

“Michael is the son-in-law of our GREAT Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, and the wonderful Rachel Campos-Duffy, of FoxNews, one of the most popular (and talented!) anchors in all of Television,” Trump wrote in his endorsement.

Alfonso, who is the grandson of Cuban refugees, quickly accepted the endorsement on social media, calling it his “greatest honor” while pledging to be “a steadfast MAGA warrior for the people of Wisconsin’s 7th District.”

The congressional seat is currently held by Republican Representative Tom Tiffany, who is vacating it to run for governor of Wisconsin. Trump has also endorsed Tiffany in that race, issuing a separate Truth Social post Monday night in support of his gubernatorial bid.

“Tom Tiffany has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Governor of Wisconsin — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump declared.

Tiffany expressed gratitude for Trump’s support in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), noting: “Just one year into his second term, wages are rising, gas prices are down, our economy is growing, and our border is secure. It’s time to restore common-sense leadership to Madison.”

Wisconsin’s 7th District, which covers much of the northern portion of the state, has been a reliable Republican stronghold in recent elections. The district represents a crucial piece of Wisconsin’s political landscape, a state that has been a battleground in presidential elections.

Alfonso’s entry into the race comes at a time when Republicans are looking to maintain their representation in Wisconsin, a key Midwest swing state. His background as the grandson of Cuban refugees has been a central part of his personal narrative in early campaign messaging.

The Duffy family connection brings additional political weight to Alfonso’s candidacy. Sean Duffy previously represented Wisconsin’s 7th District in Congress from 2011 to 2019 before resigning to focus on family matters when his wife was pregnant with their ninth child, who was diagnosed with a heart condition. Duffy later joined the Trump administration as Transportation Secretary.

Rachel Campos-Duffy, Alfonso’s mother-in-law, is a well-known Fox News host who has maintained a high profile in conservative media circles. The family connection gives Alfonso access to established political networks and potential fundraising channels that could prove valuable in the upcoming election.

The timing of Trump’s endorsement suggests the former president remains actively engaged in shaping the Republican Party’s congressional makeup and state-level leadership, focusing particularly on maintaining influence in swing states like Wisconsin.

Political analysts note that early presidential endorsements like these can significantly impact primary races, often clearing the field of potential challengers or providing substantial momentum to endorsed candidates.

Alfonso will likely face primary challengers and, if successful, a Democratic opponent in the general election. The contest for Wisconsin’s 7th District will be closely watched as both parties jockey for position in the ongoing battle for control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
