President Trump has denounced former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene following a Republican victory in the special election to fill her vacated congressional seat in Georgia’s 14th District.

In a Wednesday post on Truth Social, Trump referred to Greene as “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown,” claiming that “GREEN TURNS TO BROWN UNDER STRESS!” He congratulated Clay Fuller, who won the special election runoff, describing him as “a wonderful and talented man” and “a very large improvement over his deranged predecessor.”

Fuller won the contest by more than 11 percentage points, according to unofficial results from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. The district, which Trump carried by 37 points, has long been considered a Republican stronghold, though voter turnout was notably lower than during the 2024 general election when Greene won reelection by over 28 percentage points.

The public feud between Trump and Greene marks a dramatic reversal in their relationship. Greene, once an ardent Trump supporter known for her controversial statements and unwavering loyalty to the former president, has become increasingly critical of him in recent months before leaving office in the middle of her term earlier this year.

The breaking point in their relationship appears to have been Trump’s recent rhetoric on Iran. On Easter Sunday, Trump posted on Truth Social threatening Iranian power plants and bridges, writing: “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”

Greene responded with a lengthy post on her X account condemning Trump’s statement. “Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness,” she wrote. “I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.”

The situation escalated further on Tuesday when Trump threatened that an entire “civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” In response, Greene called for invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office, writing, “Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness.”

Greene has also criticized Trump’s policy shifts, claiming in a post about the special election results that “Trump flipping MAGA from America First to America Last, covering up for the Epstein files, and betraying key campaign promises of no more foreign wars has been the best help for the Democrats.”

Political analysts note that this public splintering between Trump and one of his formerly most loyal congressional allies reflects growing tensions within different factions of the Republican Party. While Trump maintains significant influence over the GOP and its base, Greene’s departure and subsequent criticism highlight the challenges of maintaining party unity while balancing the different interests within the MAGA movement.

The special election in Georgia’s 14th District represents a significant moment in Republican politics, as the party navigates internal divisions while maintaining control of traditionally conservative districts. While Democrats made some inroads in the special election compared to previous contests, the district remained firmly in Republican hands, suggesting that internal GOP conflicts have not yet translated to major electoral shifts in deeply conservative regions.

For Fuller, the incoming congressman, the challenge will be representing a district that remains strongly supportive of Trump while navigating the complicated relationship between the former president and his predecessor.

The language used by Trump to describe Greene is quite harsh. Calling her a ‘traitor’ and mocking her name is a far cry from his previous effusive praise.

Voter turnout being lower than the general election is an interesting data point. Does that indicate Greene’s supporters were less motivated to turn out this time around?

Or perhaps the district’s Republican base was confident enough in their party’s chances that they didn’t feel the need to vote in large numbers.

This special election result suggests the district is still solidly Republican, despite the drama between Trump and Greene. Voters appear to have prioritized party affiliation over personality conflicts.
