President Trump Called Palm Beach Police to Support Epstein Investigation, Warned About Maxwell

President Donald Trump placed a call to the Palm Beach Police Department in the mid-2000s to thank officers for investigating Jeffrey Epstein while simultaneously warning them to focus attention on Ghislaine Maxwell, whom he described as “evil,” according to recently released FBI documents.

The FBI document, part of millions of files released by the Department of Justice following Trump’s signing of the Epstein Files Transparency Act in late 2025, recounts a 2019 interview with former Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter, who served in that position from 2001 to 2009.

“TRUMP called the PBPD (Palm Beach Police Department) to tell him ‘thank goodness you’re stopping him, everyone has known he’s been doing this,'” the FBI document states. According to the Miami Herald, Reiter confirmed he was interviewed by the FBI in 2019 and that Trump’s call to the police department occurred in July 2006.

When contacted by Fox News Digital, Reiter declined to comment on the matter.

The Palm Beach Police Department’s investigation into Epstein began in 2005 after receiving a report that a 14-year-old girl was allegedly molested by the financier. This initial complaint led investigators to uncover additional sexual abuse allegations and drew Chief Reiter deeper into the case.

During the phone call, Trump allegedly provided pointed comments about Maxwell’s role in Epstein’s operations. “TRUMP told him people in New York knew EPSTEIN was disgusting,” the FBI document continues. “TRUMP said MAXWELL was EPSTEIN’s operative, ‘she is evil and to focus on her.'”

Trump also reportedly shared a personal experience that influenced his perspective on Epstein. According to the document, “TRUMP told (redacted) that he was around EPSTEIN once when teenagers were present and TRUMP ‘got the hell out of there.'” The report adds that “TRUMP was one of the very first people to call when people found out that they were investigating EPSTEIN.”

The FBI interview also appears to corroborate Trump’s long-standing assertion that he severed ties with Epstein in the early 2000s and had him removed from his Mar-a-Lago resort. “Mar-A-Lago is a mixture of everyone,” the document notes. “DONALD TRUMP told (redacted) that he threw EPSTEIN out of his club.”

Epstein was a well-connected financier whose social circle included numerous celebrities, politicians, and business leaders. He was first convicted of sex trafficking minors in 2008, serving just over one year under a controversial plea agreement that included a work-release arrangement. Following his arrest on new sex trafficking charges in 2019, Epstein was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell, with officials ruling the death a suicide.

Reiter’s interview with the FBI took place approximately two months after Epstein’s death, according to the Miami Herald.

Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate and former girlfriend, was later convicted for her role in facilitating his abuse of underage girls. She is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after being found guilty of sex trafficking and other charges in December 2021.

The documents containing these revelations are part of a larger release mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which President Trump signed into law in November 2025. Since December of that year, the Department of Justice has been systematically releasing tranches of files related to the convicted sex offender.

These revelations provide further context to Trump’s previously stated position that he distanced himself from Epstein long before the financier’s crimes became widely known to the public, while highlighting his apparent early awareness of Maxwell’s significant role in Epstein’s operations.
