Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow delivered an impassioned plea to the Senate Judiciary Committee last week, urging lawmakers to pass legislation aimed at combating child exploitation and trafficking. The founder of the Tim Tebow Foundation framed the crisis as “a fight for people who cannot fight for themselves in their darkest hour of need.”

Tebow’s testimony centered on building support for the Renewed Hope Act of 2026, a bipartisan bill that would significantly increase federal resources dedicated to fighting child exploitation and abuse. The legislation, which has already cleared a House committee markup earlier this year, would establish a specialized workforce of more than 200 analysts, investigators, and forensic specialists within the Department of Homeland Security’s Investigations unit.

“It is a thin line between tortured and treasured,” Tebow told the committee. “And you are that thin line.” He emphasized the urgent need for congressional action, adding, “I spent way too much of my life chasing a much less important MVP. I want to spend the rest of my life chasing the most vulnerable people.”

The former quarterback’s foundation currently supports 52 safe homes for trafficking victims and is working to expand that number by an additional 19 facilities. His organization provides support to law enforcement agencies and funds long-term restoration efforts for victims of exploitation.

The scale of the problem is staggering. According to data shared by the Tim Tebow Foundation, an estimated 57,000 child trafficking victims remain unidentified in exploitation databases. These children exist outside official protection systems and statistics, creating an invisible crisis that requires specialized resources to address.

In his testimony, Tebow revealed that over the past six months alone, more than 338,000 unique IP addresses based in the United States have been identified trading child sexual abuse images across peer-to-peer networks.

“Every day, these children are praying that we are going to respond,” Tebow said. “But how are we going to respond?”

The Renewed Hope Act would directly address this challenge by equipping and training officers specifically for victim identification, location, and rescue operations targeting unknown children or those identified in sexual abuse databases. This specialized approach aims to coordinate child sexual exploitation investigations more effectively across jurisdictions.

Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who chairs the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, has made child trafficking a priority issue. He described it as a “scourge” on society and explained the purpose of the hearing: “I am convening this subcommittee hearing to expose how our youth are groomed, exploited, and overlooked by the existing system. Congress must dismantle the criminal networks that profit from exploiting the most vulnerable among us and put an end to child trafficking.”

The hearing highlighted the rare bipartisan agreement on this issue, with lawmakers from both parties expressing support for strengthening federal resources to combat child exploitation.

“I am deeply grateful to the members of Congress on both sides of the aisle who are coming together to support the Renewed Hope Act of 2026,” Tebow said. “This legislation gives our nation the opportunity to build a stronger rescue team of analysts and investigators so that children who are suffering can be identified and protected. This is a problem we can solve.”

The bill now awaits further action in the Senate, where advocates hope Tebow’s high-profile testimony will help accelerate its passage. Child protection advocates note that the legislation represents a significant step forward in the national response to child exploitation, providing both increased resources and specialized expertise to identify victims and bring perpetrators to justice.
