The Republican National Committee has officially launched a TikTok account as part of a strategic push to connect with younger voters, following President Donald Trump’s successful use of the platform during his 2024 election campaign.

The RNC’s new @Republicans account aims to engage voters under 30, a demographic that typically doesn’t follow traditional political news channels but relies heavily on social media for information. This initiative comes as Pew Research reports that 63% of Americans aged 18-29 actively use TikTok, making it a critical battleground for political outreach.

“President Trump proved how powerful TikTok can be and took decisive action to secure this platform for American users,” RNC Chair Joe Gruters told Fox News Digital. “Our new account will deliver America First content directly to younger voters who get their news online, and we’re encouraging Republican candidates nationwide to do the same now that the platform is safe.”

Trump, who initially expressed skepticism about TikTok, has since credited the platform as a key factor in his election victory. “I wasn’t a fan of TikTok, and then I got to use it,” Trump said last fall. “And I became a fan, and it helped me win the election in a landslide.”

The former president’s TikTok presence has been remarkably successful, with reports indicating he amassed approximately 3 million followers within 24 hours of joining. The White House TikTok account, launched in 2025, has similarly gained significant traction, accumulating 5 million followers and more than 80 million likes by early January.

The GOP’s expanded social media strategy comes after a significant shift in TikTok’s ownership structure. Earlier this year, the platform announced a historic deal to establish a majority American-owned joint venture. This arrangement, which Trump helped facilitate, aimed to address concerns about potential Chinese influence through the app while averting a U.S. ban.

“I am so happy to have helped in saving TikTok! It will now be owned by a group of Great American Patriots and Investors, the Biggest in the World, and will be an important Voice,” Trump wrote on Truth Social after the deal was announced.

The RNC’s move into TikTok reflects a broader recognition within the Republican Party that engaging younger voters on their preferred platforms is essential for continued electoral success. In the 2024 elections, Republicans made significant gains among younger voters, helping the party recapture the White House, Senate, and maintain control of the House of Representatives.

As the 2026 midterm elections approach, Republicans face the challenge of maintaining their narrow majorities – a razor-thin advantage in the House and a three-seat margin in the Senate. Historical trends typically favor the opposition party during midterm elections, putting Republicans at a potential disadvantage.

However, Gruters remains confident in the party’s prospects, particularly with Trump’s continued involvement. “I think the President of the United States is our secret weapon…. He’s laser focused,” Gruters said in a recent interview with Fox News. “I think it’s going to pay huge dividends across the board, whether you’re running for governor, Senate, House or whether you’re running for a local seat.”

The RNC’s TikTok strategy represents a significant evolution in political campaigning, acknowledging the shifting media landscape where social platforms increasingly influence voter perspectives. By encouraging Republican candidates nationwide to establish their own TikTok presence, the party aims to level the playing field in a digital arena where Democrats have traditionally maintained an advantage.

This development also highlights how quickly political communication strategies can evolve, with both major parties now actively competing for attention across all major social media platforms to reach voters where they already spend their time.

That’s a good point. Younger voters tend to be more skeptical of political messaging, so the RNC will need to strike the right tone and provide content that feels authentic and engaging, not just promotional.

TikTok has become a powerful political tool, so it makes sense for the RNC to establish a presence there. However, they’ll need to be mindful of the platform’s unique culture and norms to avoid coming across as inauthentic or heavy-handed.
