However, not all progressive figures have joined the endorsement train. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a key progressive Democrat, has not publicly backed Goyle’s candidacy.
Goyle’s political career began in Kansas, where he represented the state’s 87th district in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011. In 2010, he mounted an unsuccessful bid for Kansas’ 4th Congressional District, raising $1.8 million but losing to Republican Mike Pompeo by a substantial margin of 58.8% to 36.5%.
Following his political defeat, Goyle transitioned to the business world, founding Bodhala, a business and legal analysis firm based in New York City, which he later sold in 2021. This business experience could prove valuable for the comptroller position, which oversees billions in state finances and investments.
In his current campaign for New York comptroller, Goyle appears to be emphasizing his progressive credentials more prominently than during his Kansas years. His campaign website states: “During his four years in the Kansas legislature, Raj voted down the line as a pro-labor, pro-choice and anti-NRA progressive.”
