Parental Rights Group Urges Trump Administration to Enhance Healthcare Pricing Transparency

A leading parental rights advocacy organization is calling on President Donald Trump to strengthen healthcare pricing transparency measures, praising initial efforts while pushing for more comprehensive reforms to benefit American families struggling with medical costs.

The American Parents Coalition sent a letter to President Trump and key federal departments on Tuesday, acknowledging progress on healthcare pricing transparency while emphasizing that “there is still much work to be done on this front.”

“Healthcare shouldn’t be a gamble for parents, and we shouldn’t have to fight for transparency when our full focus should be on our children’s health,” the coalition wrote, advocating for clearer pricing information before treatment begins.

The group, which previously gained attention for its advocacy on gender identity issues, is now focusing on healthcare affordability and transparency as part of its broader mission to support parents’ decision-making authority.

The Trump administration has already taken steps to address the issue, beginning with a February executive order aimed at revitalizing and enforcing transparency regulations initially introduced during Trump’s first term. Administration officials claim these initiatives “stalled” during President Biden’s tenure, with required pricing data often being incomplete or entirely absent.

“After President Trump’s landmark price transparency regulations from his first term were left to languish by the inept Joe Biden, the second Trump administration is in full gear developing the most aggressive price transparency enforcement possible,” White House spokesperson Kush Desai told Fox News Digital.

Following the February directive, the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Treasury jointly announced measures to strengthen healthcare price transparency, including updated federal guidance aimed at eliminating redundant data while making cost information more accessible and understandable for consumers.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has also issued guidance directing hospitals and health plans to disclose actual prices rather than estimates, providing consumers with more reliable cost information.

According to the American Parents Coalition, financial uncertainty around healthcare costs is “crippling American families.” Their latest recommendation calls for new policies requiring insurance providers to clearly communicate what treatments they will and won’t cover, along with transparent disclosure of patients’ expected out-of-pocket expenses.

“Parents deserve to know the price of healthcare, just like when we shop for groceries or plan activities for our kids,” said American Parents Coalition Executive Director Alleigh Marre. “Hidden healthcare costs make financial planning impossible and decisions difficult.”

The coalition warns that price uncertainty may lead parents to forgo necessary medical care for themselves or their children, ultimately risking health outcomes to avoid potential financial hardship.

Market analysts note that healthcare pricing transparency has become an increasingly important issue as medical costs continue to rise faster than general inflation. The lack of clear pricing has been cited as a contributing factor to the approximately 100 million Americans currently carrying medical debt.

Healthcare industry experts suggest that greater price transparency could potentially reshape market dynamics by enabling consumers to comparison shop for procedures and treatments, potentially driving down costs through increased competition.

To amplify their message, the American Parents Coalition launched a new television advertisement on Tuesday along with a dedicated website, ParentsNeedPrices.com, to mobilize public support for enhanced transparency measures.

The White House indicated that additional actions to advance price transparency are “actively under review,” suggesting that further policy changes may be forthcoming as part of the administration’s broader “Make America Healthy Again” agenda.
