Security Guard for Rep. Crockett Killed in Police Standoff Had History of Impersonating Officers

A man who provided security services for Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas was shot and killed by Dallas SWAT officers last week following a standoff at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. The incident has revealed a complex web of deception and raised serious questions about security protocols for members of Congress.

Diamon-Mazairre Robinson, 39, who operated under the alias “Mike King,” was wanted on charges of impersonating a law enforcement officer when police tracked him to the hospital’s garage last Wednesday. According to Dallas Police, Robinson had barricaded himself inside a vehicle, prompting officers to deploy tear gas to force him out.

Newly released dash camera footage shows that when Robinson exited the vehicle, he pointed a gun at officers, who then opened fire. Robinson did not discharge his weapon, and no officers were injured during the confrontation.

Dallas Deputy Police Chief William Griffith revealed on Monday that Robinson had created an elaborate facade. “The agencies that he reported to work for do not exist,” Griffith explained. “He portrayed himself as working for special dignitary police, which is not an actual federal agency. He was very good at hiding his true identity and had been living like this for many years.”

Investigators discovered Robinson was driving a replica undercover police vehicle with stolen U.S. government plates and frequently wore fake police uniforms. He had established a fraudulent business that placed legitimate off-duty police officers in security positions while using false identifying information. During their investigation, Dallas Police recovered 11 firearms, including the handgun Robinson brandished during the standoff, which had been reported stolen.

Court records indicate Robinson had a criminal history dating back to 2010, with charges including theft and probation violations.

Rep. Crockett defended her former security guard in a statement released Monday, expressing shock at the revelations while maintaining that her office had followed all House protocols for contracting additional security services.

“We are saddened and shocked by some of the concerning revelations,” Crockett stated. “Our team followed all protocols outlined by the House to contract additional security. We were approved to use this vendor who also provided security services for additional entities in the local community and worked closely with law enforcement agencies including Capitol Police.”

The congresswoman pointed to potential systemic issues in the vetting process. “The fact that an individual was able to somehow circumvent the vetting processes for something as sensitive as security for members of Congress highlights the loopholes and shortcomings in many of our systems,” she said.

Crockett also noted that her office’s review of Robinson’s “limited criminal history” in Dallas County did not reveal any violent offenses. “This situation reiterates the need for Capitol Police to provide security for members of Congress, especially under this administration’s new normal of inciting attacks on those who dare to speak out,” she added.

The progressive lawmaker described a disconnect between the person they knew as “Mike King” and the criminal activity now coming to light. “There was never any reason to suspect that he wasn’t who he held himself out to be,” Crockett explained. “He never endangered her team, worked diligently, coordinated with local law enforcement and maintained positive relationships throughout the community.”

The incident raises significant concerns about the security apparatus surrounding members of Congress, particularly those who receive numerous threats. Security experts suggest this case could prompt a review of current vetting procedures for private security contractors working with federal officials.
