Family Calls for Virginia Prosecutor’s Removal After Murder of Bus Stop Victim
The family of Stephanie Minter is demanding the removal of Fairfax County Attorney Steve Descano from office after he allegedly released her suspected killer despite a lengthy criminal history spanning dozens of arrests.
“Steve Descano completely failed Stephanie. He’s failed other people, and he will continue to fail other people unless he is just voted out of office,” said Ashton Minter, the victim’s brother, in a recent interview with local media.
His brother Gary Minter echoed the sentiment, stating, “It should never have happened. [Jalloh should’ve] never been out in the streets.”
Stephanie Minter was discovered with multiple stab wounds to her upper body at a Fairfax, Virginia bus stop late last month. Security camera footage from the scene led authorities to charge 32-year-old Abdul Jalloh with second-degree murder in connection with her death.
According to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) records, Jalloh entered the United States illegally from Sierra Leone in 2012. Despite receiving a removal order in 2020, he remained in the country. His extensive criminal history includes over 30 arrests on charges including rape, malicious wounding, assault, drug possession, identity theft, trespassing, larceny, and weapons violations.
Law enforcement sources indicate that Fairfax County prosecutors were warned at least three times about Jalloh’s violent behavior before Minter’s murder. Despite these warnings and his substantial criminal record, Descano’s office reportedly opted to release him.
“I just know that what is in your heart, it’s got to be horrible to be able to do things like that and allow somebody, anybody back onto a street that’s capable of what they’re saying,” said Cheryl Minter, the victim’s mother, expressing disbelief that someone with such a record could be released.

The Department of Homeland Security has also weighed in, with DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis urging Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger to ensure Jalloh remains in custody. “We are calling on Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger and Virginia’s sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing this murderer and violent career criminal from their jail without notifying ICE,” Bis stated.
