Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez Raises Concerns About President Trump’s Recent Behavior

Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has expressed concerns about what she describes as President Donald Trump’s “increasingly erratic” behavior, igniting a fresh exchange between the White House and the progressive lawmaker.

Speaking to Migrant Insider editor Pablo Manríquez, Ocasio-Cortez responded to a question about Donald Trump’s cognitive abilities in relation to his recent appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

“I think that the president has been acting in increasingly erratic ways,” Ocasio-Cortez stated in a video shared on social media. She contrasted media coverage of President Biden’s cognitive state during the 2024 presidential campaign with what she perceives as a lack of similar scrutiny toward Trump.

“I think it is really damning when we think about the degree to which mass media outlets reported on Joe Biden,” she said, referencing how the Democratic Party ultimately replaced Biden with Kamala Harris as their 2024 presidential nominee. “Yet, we are seeing behavior from Donald Trump that is increasingly erratic and alarming, and everyone’s pretending that this is normal.”

The New York representative further suggested that international partners are witnessing “the entire government apparatus and a party that is willing to watch someone decompensate in front of the world and do nothing about it.”

The White House responded forcefully to Ocasio-Cortez’s comments. Spokesperson Liz Huston dismissed the congresswoman’s remarks as “blatant lies” and asserted that “President Trump is dominating on the world stage and brokering historic deals to advance the interests of the American people.”

Huston also referenced Ocasio-Cortez’s previous support for President Biden during the tumultuous period following his debate performance against Trump in June 2024. “Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez was one of the few delusional holdouts backing and pleading for Joe Biden to remain as their presidential nominee as late as July 8, 2024,” Huston stated.

Indeed, in early July 2024, before Biden withdrew from the presidential race, Ocasio-Cortez had publicly stated, “Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not leaving this race. He is in this race, and I support him.”

The exchange highlights ongoing tensions over leadership capabilities and cognitive fitness that have dominated political discourse across both major parties in recent years. President Trump has repeatedly touted his cognitive abilities, declaring earlier this year on Truth Social that White House doctors reported him in “PERFECT HEALTH” and that he had “ACED” a cognitive examination “for the third straight time.”

In that same post, Trump advocated for mandatory cognitive testing for presidential and vice-presidential candidates, writing, “Our great Country cannot be run by ‘STUPID’ or INCOMPETENT PEOPLE!”

The dispute between Ocasio-Cortez and the White House represents the latest chapter in a contentious relationship. Trump previously referred to the congresswoman as “one of the ‘dumbest’ people in Congress” in a social media post last year.

This exchange occurs as President Trump continues his diplomatic engagements at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he delivered a speech to global leaders and economic stakeholders on January 21.

The back-and-forth highlights the intensifying political climate in Washington as both parties position themselves following the 2024 election cycle, with questions about leadership fitness and cognitive capabilities remaining prominent points of contention in American political discourse.
