Texas Representative Al Green Takes Seat for Trump’s State of the Union After 2025 Ejection

Democratic Representative Al Green of Texas has returned to the House chamber for President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, despite being forcibly removed during the president’s speech to Congress last year.

Fox News Digital spotted Green on Tuesday evening standing at a seat just five rows from where Trump will deliver his address. The progressive lawmaker from Texas has positioned himself on the Democrats’ traditional side of the chamber for the 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time speech.

The congressman’s attendance marks a notable return after security ejected him from Trump’s 2025 address to a joint session of Congress. During that event, Green repeatedly interrupted the president, shouting and shaking his cane even after being asked to quiet down. His persistent protests prompted Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to direct security to remove him from the chamber.

“You have no mandate to cut Medicaid,” Green shouted during the 2025 address, voicing opposition to the administration’s proposed changes to healthcare programs.

The disruption led to formal consequences for the Texas Democrat. The House voted to censure Green over the outburst, with 10 Democrats crossing party lines to join Republicans in the disciplinary action. Green was one of several Democrats who disrupted Trump’s speech, but his continued protests despite warnings led to his removal.

Following his ejection from the 2025 address, Green remained defiant when speaking with the White House press pool on the first floor of the U.S. Capitol. “I’m willing to suffer whatever punishment is available to me. I didn’t say to anyone, ‘don’t punish me.’ I’ve said I’ll accept the punishment,” Green stated, according to White House pool reports.

He added, “But it’s worth it to let people know that there are some of us who are going to stand up against this president’s desire to cut Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.”

Green has established himself as one of Trump’s most vocal critics in Congress, introducing articles of impeachment against the president on multiple occasions during Trump’s first term. His presence at tonight’s address comes as some Democratic lawmakers have chosen to skip the event entirely, highlighting the ongoing partisan tensions in Washington.

The congressman’s return to the State of the Union reflects the heightened political atmosphere surrounding Trump’s presidency. As the president prepares to outline his agenda for the coming year, the seating arrangement and attendance of legislators like Green signal the continued partisan divide that has characterized much of Trump’s time in office.

This year’s State of the Union address follows months of contentious policy battles between the administration and congressional Democrats over healthcare, immigration, and federal spending. Political observers will be watching closely not only for the content of Trump’s speech but also for reactions from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

For Green, his attendance represents both a political statement and a demonstration that last year’s ejection has not deterred his willingness to be present at high-profile presidential events, even as he continues to oppose many of the administration’s policy initiatives.
