In a sharp rebuke Tuesday, Urban Finance and Infrastructure Corporation Chairman Peela Govinda Satyanarayana accused YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of orchestrating a campaign to tarnish Visakhapatnam’s reputation in the business and investment community.
Speaking at a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) office in Anakapalli town during a Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) disbursement event, Satyanarayana claimed the opposition leader and his associates are deliberately spreading misinformation about government initiatives, particularly characterizing the public-private partnership model for medical colleges as outright privatization.
“They’re engaging in false propaganda when the truth is these partnerships are designed to strengthen our healthcare education infrastructure while maintaining government oversight,” Satyanarayana said to attendees at the ceremony.
The allegations go beyond healthcare policy disputes. According to Satyanarayana, the former Chief Minister actively worked to undermine Visakhapatnam’s economic development during his time in office, including alleged efforts to prevent tech giant Google from establishing operations in the coastal city. The corporation chairman did not provide specific evidence for this claim during his remarks.
Visakhapatnam, often called the “City of Destiny,” has been positioned as a potential technology and industrial hub on India’s eastern seaboard. Regional economic experts note the city’s strategic location and existing infrastructure make it attractive for both domestic and international investment.
Satyanarayana praised current IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh for countering what he described as systematic obstruction, claiming Lokesh had successfully attracted companies back to the region after they allegedly departed during the previous administration. The statement highlights the ongoing political narrative that the current coalition government is working to repair economic damage from the previous term.
“Minister Lokesh is implementing significant educational reforms that will benefit generations to come,” Satyanarayana stated, though he did not elaborate on specific policy changes during the event.
The chairman credited Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan for the state’s economic turnaround, suggesting their leadership had placed Andhra Pradesh back on a development trajectory after what he characterized as a period of crisis.
Andhra Pradesh’s current governing coalition, formed after the recent elections, brings together the TDP, Jana Sena Party, and BJP in an alliance that Satyanarayana insists will fulfill “100 percent of campaign promises” made to voters during the election cycle.
The event itself showcased the government’s welfare priorities, with Satyanarayana distributing approximately Rs 32 lakh (roughly $38,400) in relief funds to 46 beneficiaries. These CMRF disbursements typically assist residents facing financial hardship due to medical expenses and other emergencies.
“The health of our poorest citizens remains a top priority for this coalition government,” Satyanarayana emphasized while handing over the financial assistance. “We will continue standing by those in need through all possible avenues of support.”
The event drew participation from representatives across the three coalition parties, demonstrating the alliance’s unified public face despite the diverse political backgrounds of its components.
This exchange represents the continuing political tensions in Andhra Pradesh, where control shifted from YSRCP to the TDP-led coalition in the most recent election cycle. Both sides continue to battle over economic development narratives and the interpretation of policy decisions, with Visakhapatnam’s future as an industrial and technological center frequently featuring as a central point of contention.

The alleged efforts to undermine Visakhapatnam’s economic development are quite serious, if true. Attracting major tech companies like Google is crucial for a city’s growth, so any deliberate obstruction would be very concerning. More details are needed to assess the credibility of these claims.
Indeed, the economic development implications are high stakes. Hopefully an impartial investigation can get to the bottom of what actually occurred and whether there was any wrongdoing.
Interesting claims from the Urban Finance and Infrastructure Corporation Chairman. It’s concerning if the opposition is deliberately spreading misinformation, but we’d need to see the facts to judge for ourselves. Maintaining government oversight while leveraging public-private partnerships could be a pragmatic approach, if done properly.
I agree, transparency and factual information are key here. Both sides should present their evidence clearly so the public can evaluate the merits of the public-private college model.
This seems to be a complex issue with political tensions involved. While I’m wary of misinformation campaigns, the public-private partnership model for medical colleges does raise legitimate questions about privatization and government oversight. I’d like to see a balanced analysis of the pros and cons from multiple stakeholders.
