In a public statement released yesterday, Satguru Travel & Tours Services addressed allegations made by former employee Dheeraj Jain, who has accused the company of unlawful captivity. The travel management firm categorically denied these claims, describing the situation as a legal matter currently under investigation by Cameroonian authorities.
Jain, who joined the company in 2012 and last served as Finance Manager, has made public accusations against his former employer that Satguru Travel claims misrepresent ongoing legal proceedings in Cameroon.
“This matter does not involve captivity, coercion, or unlawful detention of Dheeraj Jain and his family by Satguru Travel,” the company stated. “It concerns registered criminal cases which are presently under investigation and judicial consideration by Cameroonian authorities.”
According to the statement, Satguru Travel followed proper legal channels in Cameroon, filing formal complaints with the Douala Territorial Gendarmerie Group under the National Gendarmerie, which operates under the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cameroon. The company noted that preliminary investigations were conducted, and an official report was recorded by a Judicial Police Officer attached to the authority.
The firm emphasized that the High Commission of India in Cameroon has been kept fully informed throughout the proceedings, suggesting diplomatic awareness of the situation involving the Indian national.
While the company did not disclose specific details about the alleged criminal cases against Jain, they stated that all relevant documentation—including FIRs (First Information Reports), court records, embassy correspondence, financial documentation, client statements, and CCTV evidence—has been submitted to Cameroonian authorities.
“The matter remains pending before the competent courts in Cameroon and will be decided strictly in accordance with law, based on evidence and judicial scrutiny,” the company stated, urging “the public and media to distinguish between verified facts and manipulated narratives.”
The dispute comes at a time when multinational companies operating in Africa face increasing scrutiny over employee relations and compliance with local legal systems. Cross-border employment disputes can become particularly complex when they involve multiple jurisdictions and allegations of criminal wrongdoing.
Satguru Travel & Tours Services has established a significant presence across Africa since its founding in Rwanda in 1989. Now headquartered in Dubai, the company has expanded to become a global travel enterprise operating in more than 80 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and beyond.
Under the leadership of Chairman Anil Chandirani, the company has developed from a modest travel management firm into a comprehensive travel services provider. Its portfolio includes corporate and leisure travel services, visa assistance, flight and hotel bookings, car rentals, and specialized logistics solutions for marine and offshore sectors.
The travel industry in Africa has experienced substantial growth over the past decade, with companies like Satguru leveraging their regional expertise to capitalize on increasing business and tourism travel throughout the continent. This growth has come with challenges, including navigating different regulatory environments and managing cross-border operations.
As this legal matter unfolds in Cameroon, it highlights the complexities that can arise for international businesses operating across multiple jurisdictions, particularly when allegations involve former employees and potential criminal investigations.
Neither Jain nor representatives of the Indian High Commission in Cameroon have publicly responded to Satguru Travel’s statement. The company has provided contact information for further inquiries through Trident Public Affairs.
