Nepali Embassy in UAE Warns Citizens Against Sharing Security-Related Content on Social Media

The Nepali Embassy in the United Arab Emirates has issued a strong warning to its citizens against spreading rumors or sharing content related to security concerns on social media platforms amid the current security situation in the Gulf nation.

In its third advisory notice, the embassy specifically requested that Nepali expatriates refrain from posting, sharing, or broadcasting any sensitive information, videos, or images related to the ongoing security situation. Officials emphasized that such activities could potentially create unnecessary confusion and misperceptions during an already tense period.

“All Nepali nationals must comply with the laws of the UAE and avoid engaging in any unauthorized or illegal activities,” the embassy stated in its communication. The advisory highlighted the severe consequences of violating UAE regulations, noting that offenders could face imprisonment ranging from one to three years and substantial financial penalties between 100,000 and 200,000 dirhams (approximately $27,000 to $54,000).

The embassy also issued specific guidelines regarding physical evidence of security incidents, warning citizens not to approach, photograph, or share images of debris resulting from intercepted missiles or drones. This caution comes as the UAE has recently faced several aerial attacks, with its defense systems actively intercepting incoming threats.

Security experts note that the UAE, once considered one of the most stable countries in the Middle East, has experienced increased security challenges in recent months. The country’s involvement in regional conflicts has occasionally made it a target for drone and missile attacks, primarily from non-state actors in the region.

The Nepali community in the UAE, estimated at over 200,000 people, forms a significant portion of the country’s foreign workforce. Many Nepalis are employed in the construction, hospitality, and service sectors, contributing substantially to both the UAE economy and Nepal’s remittance income.

For updates and accurate information, the embassy has directed Nepali residents to follow official channels only. “Please rely exclusively on information from authorized sources and follow the safety instructions issued by the UAE government,” the advisory stated. The embassy has committed to providing regular updates through its official Facebook page.

Citizens seeking reliable information have been advised to monitor notices from official UAE government entities including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, media offices of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The embassy’s careful approach reflects broader concerns about the role of social media during security incidents, where misinformation can spread rapidly and potentially exacerbate tensions. Digital security analysts have repeatedly warned that unverified information shared during sensitive situations can complicate official responses and create public panic.

This advisory comes at a time when many Gulf nations are heightening security measures in response to regional tensions. For the approximately 8.84 million expatriates living in the UAE, who make up nearly 89 percent of the country’s population, understanding and adhering to local regulations regarding information sharing has become increasingly important.

The embassy concluded its notice with an appeal to all Nepalis residing in the UAE to remain vigilant, responsible, and safe during this period of uncertainty, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation with local authorities.
