Korean game developer NC, formerly known as NCSoft, has filed a lawsuit against popular YouTube content creator “younglaegi” over alleged misinformation about the company’s flagship game Lineage Classic, according to a report by Munhwa Journal 21.
The legal action, announced on April 7, accuses the YouTuber of spreading false information and obstructing business operations. With approximately 290,000 subscribers at the time of reporting, younglaegi allegedly made damaging claims about NC’s management of its recently released MMORPG.
Lineage Classic, which launched in February across South Korea and Taiwan, represents a revival of NCSoft’s longstanding desktop MMORPG franchise. The game has attracted significant attention in the Asian gaming market as players return to experience the reimagined classic.
The conflict centers on a February 22 video titled “Why macro farms won’t go away in Lineage Classic,” where younglaegi claimed NC deliberately ignored players using illegal automation programs while punishing those who reported such misconduct. The YouTuber alleged that cheating was “rampant” in the game, with automation macros preventing regular players from accessing certain areas.
According to the video, one player who submitted approximately 2,000 reports against suspected cheaters as a “test” was subsequently sent to the in-game prison the following day, suggesting the company was targeting whistleblowers rather than addressing the actual cheating.
NC has categorically denied these claims. Following what it describes as a comprehensive internal investigation supported by both internal and external experts, the company stated that the video’s content was demonstrably false. NC further contended that the YouTuber’s allegations damaged the game’s reputation and disrupted its legitimate anti-cheat reporting system.
In its official statement, NC emphasized its commitment to addressing player feedback regarding gameplay and service quality while taking a firm stance against defamation and misinformation that could impair its ability to provide services effectively. The company highlighted its ongoing commitment to combating cheaters, citing over 105 anti-cheating enforcement actions that have resulted in restrictions on more than 5.9 million accounts to date.
This legal action reflects a growing trend among gaming companies taking more aggressive measures against what they consider harmful misinformation. As social media amplifies individual voices, companies increasingly find themselves defending their reputations through legal channels.
A similar case recently occurred when Square Enix took action against the Japanese Final Fantasy XIV news aggregator blog “Netoge Sokuho” for allegedly publishing content that damaged the reputations of company executives and staff. That dispute ended in settlement, with the blog’s owner agreeing to shut down the site, issue a public apology, and pay compensation.
The gaming industry has seen other publishers take similar stances. The publisher of Genshin Impact reportedly recovered more than $5.38 million in damages from legal actions against leakers in 2025, demonstrating the financial impact that unauthorized information sharing and misinformation can have on game developers.
As digital content creation continues to evolve, the legal boundaries between criticism, commentary, and defamation become increasingly important for both content creators and game developers to navigate. This case highlights the tension between free expression and corporate reputation management in the gaming ecosystem.
NC’s lawsuit against younglaegi will likely be closely watched across the gaming industry as companies continue to refine their approaches to addressing online criticism and alleged misinformation about their products and practices.

While I can understand NCSoft’s desire to protect their intellectual property, suing a YouTuber over criticism seems like a heavy-handed approach. I hope they can find a more constructive way to address player concerns.
That’s a fair point. Lawsuits can often do more harm than good in these situations. A collaborative approach would likely be more effective in the long run.
It’s interesting to see this legal battle over misinformation and game integrity. While I don’t have all the details, I hope NCSoft can address any valid player concerns through transparent communication rather than resorting to lawsuits.
That’s a fair point. Lawsuits can sometimes backfire if not handled carefully. Hopefully both sides can find a constructive resolution.
This is a tricky situation. On one hand, misinformation can be damaging, but on the other, companies shouldn’t be too quick to litigate against player criticism. I hope both sides can find a balanced solution.
