The wife of a retired U.S. Air Force major general who disappeared nearly two months ago has addressed growing speculation about her husband’s connection to UFO research, calling much of the circulating information inaccurate.

Neil McCasland, who retired in 2013 as commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, was last seen at his Albuquerque home on February 27. His disappearance has sparked widespread interest, particularly due to claims about his alleged involvement with UFO investigations.

In a candid Facebook post, Susan McCasland Wilkerson addressed what she termed “misinformation” surrounding her husband’s case. She confirmed that McCasland had briefly worked with Tom DeLonge, former Blink-182 frontman and founder of To The Stars, an organization focused on unexplained phenomena.

“Neil worked with Tom for a bit shortly after his Air Force retirement as an unpaid consultant on military and technical/scientific matters to lend verisimilitude to Tom’s fiction book and media activities,” Wilkerson explained, emphasizing the limited nature of this association.

The connection has drawn particular attention because Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where McCasland served, has long been associated with UFO investigations in popular culture and conspiracy theories. During his tenure there, McCasland managed a substantial $2.2 billion science and technology program, along with an additional $2.2 billion in customer-funded research and development.

Despite these responsibilities, Wilkerson firmly stated that her husband “does not have any special knowledge” related to UFOs from his time at the base. She even addressed the speculation with a touch of dark humor: “Though at this point with absolutely no sign of him, maybe the best hypothesis is that aliens beamed him up to the mothership. However, no sightings of a mothership hovering above the Sandia Mountains have been reported.”

Wilkerson also dismissed theories that her husband might have been abducted for classified information, noting that any secrets he possessed would be “very dated” given his retirement 13 years ago.

The investigation into McCasland’s disappearance has been extensive. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has canvassed more than 700 homes in the area, collected security footage, and conducted drone operations, ground searches, and K9 searches. The FBI Albuquerque Field Office has also joined the investigation.

Authorities noted that several items are missing from McCasland’s residence, including his hiking boots, wallet, and a .38 caliber revolver with a leather holster. His phone and prescription glasses, however, were left behind. Investigators also found a U.S. Air Force sweatshirt approximately a mile from his home, though they have not confirmed whether it belonged to McCasland.

Wilkerson also clarified that contrary to some reports, her husband does not suffer from dementia. A silver alert issued shortly after his disappearance had mentioned unspecified “medical issues,” but officials have since stated they will not release medical details or “speculate about his state of mind.”

She further denied reports that McCasland had received a “concerning Friday-morning telephone call to a close relative” before his disappearance.

Law enforcement officials continue to pursue all credible leads and are asking residents in the area to check security camera footage for any potentially helpful information. “While there is currently no evidence indicating foul play, investigators are examining all available information as the case remains active,” the sheriff’s office stated in their most recent update.

As the search enters its second month, Wilkerson expressed appreciation for the support from across the country, promising to provide updates if any new information emerges in the case of the missing former Air Force leader.
