In a heartfelt social media tribute, director Manu Antony has expressed his profound gratitude to veteran actor Joju George for elevating the character of Reji in the upcoming Malayalam film ‘Aja: Sundari’ beyond the script’s original conception.

Taking to Instagram, Antony penned, “When I finished writing the script of ‘Aja: Sundari’, the main character, Reji, was someone filled with many layers and emotions. Dear Joju Chettan, the character went far beyond what we had written only because of you.” The director continued his appreciation, noting it was “an honor” to work with George and predicting that “many more great roles are waiting for you.”

The praise comes shortly after the production team announced the completion of filming for ‘Aja: Sundari,’ which has generated significant buzz in Malayalam cinema circles. The film pairs Joju George with actress Lijomol Jose in leading roles.

Acclaimed filmmaker Aashiq Abu, who serves as both producer and cinematographer for the project, also marked the wrap with a social media announcement, thanking “everyone who stood by this cinema” and promising that the film would be “coming soon to cinemas.”

‘Aja: Sundari’ represents a significant milestone in the Malayalam film industry as it marks the directorial debut of Manu Antony, previously known for his exceptional work as an editor. Antony’s editing credentials include the action thriller ‘Pani,’ which also starred Joju George in the lead role. This established professional relationship between the two appears to have strengthened through their collaboration on ‘Aja: Sundari.’

Last October, the production team shared a glimpse into their creative process by posting a photograph of the core team with the caption: “Sun, sweat, smiles – and a shared dream. A @getmanuantony mission.” This teaser further amplified interest among cinema enthusiasts.

The film boasts an impressive assembly of creative talent behind the camera. Beyond directing, Antony has taken on writing and editing responsibilities for the project. The script was co-written with Geethartha AR, featuring additional screenplay contributions from Saneth Radhakrishnan. Producer Jaison Francis joins Aashiq Abu in backing the film, which is being presented under the banner of the renowned production house OPM Cinemas.

The technical aspects of ‘Aja: Sundari’ showcase deep industry expertise. Musical composition has been entrusted to Drumyuga, while production design falls under the expertise of Ajayan Challissery. Midhun Challissery serves as art director, with Mashar Hamza handling costume design. Action choreographer Robin has designed the film’s stunt sequences, suggesting the movie will feature dynamic physical performances.

Joju George has established himself as one of Malayalam cinema’s most versatile actors, known for his ability to transform into complex characters across varied genres. His collaboration with first-time director Antony highlights the industry’s continual cross-pollination of established talent with emerging filmmakers.

The film arrives during a particularly creative period for Malayalam cinema, which has gained national and international recognition for its innovative storytelling, realistic performances, and technical craftsmanship. ‘Aja: Sundari’ appears poised to continue this tradition of quality regional filmmaking that resonates beyond linguistic boundaries.

While no official release date has been announced, the completion of filming suggests audiences can expect to see ‘Aja: Sundari’ in theaters in the coming months, adding to the robust lineup of Malayalam releases anticipated this year.
