Luke Bryan Clarifies Details Surrounding Sister’s Death

Country music star Luke Bryan has addressed long-standing rumors about his sister’s death, revealing she succumbed to sudden death syndrome in 2007. During a recent appearance on the “All There Is” podcast, the 49-year-old singer clarified the circumstances surrounding the passing of his sister, Kelly Bryan Cheshire, who died unexpectedly at age 39.

“I never really explained what happened to my sister. There’s some misinformation out there on the internet, and I think some people wonder what happened and they think that we’ve tried to cover it up,” Bryan said. “There is a very, very small percentage of people who die for no reason – and it’s called sudden death syndrome and that’s essentially what they described my sister’s death as.”

Bryan described the devastating moment in painfully simple terms: “She was in her home doing her laundry and it was like somebody turned the switch off on her and it was just tragic beyond words.”

His older brother, Chris Bryan, died in a vehicle collision in 1996 when Luke was just beginning his music career. “I don’t know anybody that could have done what she’s done,” Bryan said of his wife. “I mean, she goes into life thinking she’s marrying a country music singer, and then next thing you know, she’s helping the girls and the boys and still putting up with my antics.”

Bryan also revealed that Caroline has faced her own family tragedy, as her brother and sister-in-law lost their seven-month-old baby, Brett. “We’ve had to watch them deal with grief, losing a seven-month-old, very close to us and we love them,” he shared.
