Singer Jang Yoon-jung has publicly addressed rumors about an expensive dining table in her home, clarifying that misinformation has been circulating about its actual value.
The 43-year-old trot singer took to social media on Wednesday to correct claims that she and her husband, KBS announcer Do Kyung-wan, own a dining table worth 14.4 million won (approximately $10,800). The clarification came after viewers of a recent television program featuring the couple’s home drew attention to the luxurious piece of furniture.
“I’ve received so many messages asking about our dining table that I feel I need to address this,” Jang wrote on her Instagram account. “The table shown on the program is actually worth 3.9 million won, not 14.4 million won as has been reported.”
The confusion apparently stemmed from a misinterpretation during the broadcast. Jang explained that while discussing home furnishings, she had mentioned that similar tables from the same brand could cost up to 14.4 million won, but the one in her home was significantly less expensive.
“I simply mentioned that tables from this brand range up to that price for their premium models, but ours is one of their more modest offerings,” she added. “I’m concerned that people might think we’re living extravagantly or misrepresenting our lifestyle.”
The couple’s home was featured as part of a lifestyle segment on KBS, showcasing how the pair balance their careers with family life. Jang and Do, who married in 2013, have two children and have become known for their candid portrayal of married life through various media appearances.
This incident highlights the scrutiny that celebrities in South Korea often face regarding their personal wealth and lifestyle choices. In a society where conspicuous consumption can draw criticism, public figures frequently find themselves explaining purchases or clarifying misconceptions about their financial status.
Jang’s career spans over two decades in the Korean entertainment industry. After debuting in 2004 with her hit song “Eomeona,” she established herself as a prominent trot singer – a genre of Korean popular music that has experienced a significant revival in recent years. Her husband Do Kyung-wan is a respected announcer at KBS, one of South Korea’s major broadcasting networks.
The couple has maintained a steady presence in the public eye, appearing on various reality and talk shows that offer glimpses into their domestic life. This transparency has made them relatable to many Korean households, but also subjects them to increased scrutiny.
Media experts note that such misunderstandings are common in the age of social media, where information – and misinformation – spreads rapidly.
“Public figures increasingly need to manage not just their public image but also correct misinterpretations in real-time,” said Kim Min-ho, a media studies professor at Yonsei University. “What might seem like a minor detail about a piece of furniture can quickly become a topic of public discourse about wealth, status, and authenticity.”
Jang concluded her social media post by thanking fans for their interest but requested that people verify information before spreading it. “I appreciate everyone’s concern and interest in our home, but I wanted to set the record straight. We try to live modestly and responsibly, just like everyone else.”
The clarification has been well-received by fans, many of whom commented with messages of support and understanding on her post. The incident serves as a reminder of how easily information can be misconstrued in today’s media landscape, particularly when it comes to the personal lives of public figures.

While I understand the desire for nice home decor, that dining table cost is eye-watering. I hope the singer is using sustainably sourced materials and supporting ethical furniture makers. Quality is important, but so is responsible consumption.
Hmm, 3.9 million won for a dining table is still quite pricey. But I suppose for a public figure, having quality furnishings is part of maintaining a certain lifestyle image. Curious to hear more about the brand and craftsmanship behind it.
Interesting to see a celebrity clarifying the actual value of their furniture. It’s good when public figures address misinformation head-on to provide accurate information.
Agreed, transparency is important, especially when it comes to luxury goods and expenses. The clarification helps avoid speculation and unfair assumptions.
It’s good the singer took the time to correct the misinformation. Providing that level of detail on the actual cost and brand helps give context. I’m curious if this sets a precedent for other celebrities addressing similar rumors about their personal purchases.
