In a firm pushback against swirling online rumors, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk has categorically denied claims that he was married on Jeffrey Epstein’s private island, calling the allegations “misinformation” and “nonsense.”
“Here are the facts and timelines of my nuptials, and I apologize if they don’t fit a narrative of nonsense,” Hawk stated in an Instagram story posted Thursday, addressing the false claims that have recently circulated on social media platforms.
The 56-year-old skateboarding pioneer, who has been married four times, provided specific details about each of his wedding locations: his home in Fallbrook, California; the Hilton Hotel in San Diego; Tavarua Surf Island in Fiji; and Adare Manor in Ireland. None of these ceremonies took place on Little Saint James, Epstein’s notorious private estate in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The confusion appears to stem from recently released documents under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Among these was an FBI email dated October 22, 2024, in which a special agent reported that a victim claimed “she was taken from Ireland and brought to Jeffrey Epstein Island when she was 13 years old,” and that “she was there when Prince Edward was there and when Tony Hawk got married on the island.”
Adding to the confusion was a coincidental connection: a photographer named Mark Epstein attended and documented Hawk’s 2006 wedding in Fiji. Hawk clarified that this Mark Epstein has no relation to the convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein or his brother, but is instead “an accomplished action sports photographer from Wyoming.”
“This is all easily verifiable information,” Hawk emphasized in his statement. “Facts are not fungible.”
The skateboarder categorically stated he had never met Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, nor has he ever visited Epstein’s private island.
The incident highlights the growing challenge public figures face in the era of viral misinformation, particularly when their names appear in proximity to high-profile criminal cases. The Epstein Files Transparency Act, which made these documents public, has resulted in numerous celebrities and public figures being mentioned, though many connections have proven tenuous or entirely false.
Hawk, whose pioneering skateboarding career spans over four decades, has maintained a generally positive public image throughout his time in the spotlight. Known for landing the first documented “900” (a 2½-revolution aerial spin) and for his successful video game franchise, Hawk has focused much of his later career on philanthropy through the Tony Hawk Foundation, which helps fund public skateparks in underserved communities.
The false rumors connecting Hawk to Epstein’s island represent a particular type of misinformation that has become increasingly common: the conflation of unrelated individuals with similar names, coupled with the rapid spread of unverified claims through social media channels.
Legal experts note that while the release of documents related to Epstein’s case serves the public interest in transparency, the inclusion of unverified allegations can sometimes lead to innocent individuals being falsely implicated. The Department of Justice continues to investigate cases related to Epstein’s alleged trafficking network, but emphasizes that not all claims in witness statements have been independently verified.
Hawk’s direct response to the rumors demonstrates an increasingly necessary approach for public figures: addressing misinformation quickly and with verifiable facts rather than allowing false narratives to spread unchallenged.
