Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, an AI-powered alternative to Wikipedia, as his latest venture into the information technology space. The new platform debuted on Monday with approximately 800,000 articles, all reportedly written by Musk’s Grok artificial intelligence system.
The website closely resembles Wikipedia in both aesthetic and functionality, featuring a similarly minimalist design and reference structure. However, with just over 10 percent of Wikipedia’s approximately 7 million articles, Grokipedia currently offers a significantly smaller knowledge base.
“The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal,” Musk announced on X, the social media platform he acquired in 2022. The tech mogul also shared an ambitious vision for the platform’s preservation, stating that he hopes to send copies of Grokipedia “etched in a stable oxide in orbit, the Moon and Mars to preserve it for the future.”
While the exact level of human involvement in creating and editing Grokipedia’s content remains unclear, the platform does offer users the ability to provide feedback on potential errors they identify in articles.
The launch appears to be motivated, at least in part, by Musk’s criticism of what he perceives as ideological bias in Wikipedia. He has previously characterized the established online encyclopedia as being controlled by “far-left activists,” echoing complaints from some conservative voices about alleged liberal bias in Wikipedia’s content and editing processes.
Early comparisons between the two platforms have revealed notable differences in content approach and tone, particularly evident in their respective articles about Musk himself. Wikipedia’s entry describes Musk as a “polarizing figure” and references controversies including “unscientific and misleading statements, COVID-19 misinformation and promoting conspiracy theories,” as well as allegations of “antisemitic, racist, and transphobic comments.” The Wikipedia article also mentions an increase in “hate speech and the spread of misinformation” on X following Musk’s acquisition.
By contrast, Grokipedia presents a markedly different portrayal, stating that Musk “has influenced broader debates on technological progress, demographic decline, and institutional biases.” Its article also frames his content moderation changes at X as “reforms” that faced criticism from “legacy media outlets.”
This initiative represents Musk’s growing interest in shaping information ecosystems and artificial intelligence applications. As CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, and founder of xAI (the company behind Grok), Musk has increasingly positioned himself as a figure challenging what he characterizes as establishment media and information gatekeepers.
The launch of Grokipedia raises significant questions about the future of AI-generated reference content and the potential for competing information ecosystems built around different ideological frameworks. Information technology experts have long debated the challenges of maintaining neutrality and accuracy in collaborative knowledge platforms, with Wikipedia’s volunteer-based editing model representing one approach to addressing these concerns.
As Grokipedia develops, observers will likely watch closely to see how its AI-driven content generation compares to Wikipedia’s human-curated approach in terms of accuracy, comprehensiveness, and potential biases. The platform’s success could have broader implications for how information is created, vetted, and consumed in an era of advancing AI capabilities and increasing polarization around sources of factual information.

The cost guidance is better than expected. If they deliver, the stock could rerate.
