Delhi Chief Minister Warns Against LPG Shortage Rumors, Threatens Action

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta issued a stern warning on Sunday against individuals spreading rumors about a potential LPG shortage in Delhi, emphasizing that such misinformation is creating unnecessary panic among residents.

Speaking at an event held at Apna Ghar Ashram in Budhpur, Gupta assured citizens that both the central and Delhi governments are closely monitoring the situation, and there is no cause for alarm regarding LPG supplies.

“Certain elements are attempting to create fear and encourage hoarding by spreading misleading information,” Gupta stated, describing such actions as detrimental to national interest. The chief minister emphasized that authorities are vigilantly tracking these activities and would take strict action against any person or organization found spreading false information or engaging in improper practices.

The LPG market in Delhi serves millions of households, and even minor disruptions or rumors can trigger panic buying and artificial shortages. India has been working to expand LPG coverage across the country through programs like Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, making stable supply chains crucial for energy security.

Energy experts note that India’s dependence on imported LPG makes the market particularly sensitive to global supply fluctuations and price changes. However, current supply indicators show no immediate reason for concern in the Delhi region.

Gupta urged citizens to disregard the rumors and continue with their normal routines, emphasizing the importance of reliable information during potential market disruptions. The government’s quick response highlights authorities’ concerns about the economic impact that panic buying could have on essential commodities.

Earlier in the day, Gupta attended the 12th anniversary celebration and silver jubilee program of Apna Ghar Ashram, an organization dedicated to serving abandoned and destitute individuals. During her address, the chief minister praised the ashram’s humanitarian efforts and announced several supportive measures.

“The work being done by Apna Ghar Ashram demonstrates the true spirit of service to those most vulnerable in our society,” Gupta remarked while touring the facility.

As part of her commitment to supporting the organization, Gupta announced financial assistance for constructing a paved road to improve access to the ashram. She also assured administrators that the government would help address various administrative and infrastructure-related challenges faced by the institution.

The chief minister further committed to exploring the possibility of institutionalizing systems for organ and eye donation from deceased residents, stating that the government would implement necessary frameworks if required.

The event was attended by several prominent officials, including Member of Parliament Yogendra Chandoliya and Narela MLA Raj Karan Khatri, underscoring the government’s support for social welfare initiatives in the region.

This incident highlights the broader challenges facing urban centers in India, where supply chain rumors can quickly escalate into market disruptions. Government officials across major cities have been increasingly vigilant about misinformation campaigns that target essential commodities and services.

Energy security remains a priority for Delhi’s administration, particularly as the city continues to grow and consumption patterns evolve. Authorities have established monitoring systems to track supply chains and identify potential bottlenecks before they affect consumers.

As the situation develops, Delhi residents are encouraged to rely on official government communications regarding essential supplies and to report any instances of misinformation to appropriate authorities.
